Minnie Pearl ‘Perle’ KINCAID was born on September 25, 1879, in Griggsville, Illinois, her father, Thomas, was 27 and her mother, Lucinda, was 23. She married Charles Corwin “Spec” McMechan on January 11, 1902, in Eldon, Iowa. They had one child during their marriage. She died on October 16, 1967, in Los Angeles, California, at the age of 88, and was buried in Sterling, Kansas. They had been married 65 years.

Marian E. Tigner, 86, died June 19, 2006, at Hospice House.
She was born Dec. 27, 1919, in Swan, Iowa, the daughter of Ross E. and Hazel N. Falor Buckley. She graduated from Liberty Center High School, Liberty Center, Iowa, in 1937. In 1961, she graduated from Sterling College and received her reading specialist degree from Emporia State University. A resident of Hutchinson since 1990, having lived in Sterling from 1950 to 1990, she was a retired teacher, teaching her first year at Zenda, two years at Whitewater, and retired from Sterling Grade School after 33 years.
She belonged to First Baptist Church of Sterling and was a life member of the NEA and KNEA.
On July 31, 1938, she married R. John Tigner.
Survivors include: two daughters, Joan Hopping, Hutchinson, and Janet Aves and husband, Don, Garden Plain; a sister, Alice Sumner and husband, James, Derby; five grandchildren, Shannon and wife, Tiffany Hopkins, Lori and husband, DuWayne Klaassen, Michelle Shanks and husband, Ben, John Hopping and wife, Courtney, and Mia Hopkins; and eight great-grandchildren, Joshuah and Mackenzie Hopkins, Katelyn and Kendra Klaassen, Shelby and Corey Bishop, Brian Hopkins and a Hopping baby on the way.
Funeral will be at 11 a.m. Thursday at Elliott Chapel, Hutchinson, with James Sumner presiding. Visitation will be from 9 a.m. to 9 p.m. Wednesday at the funeral home. The casket will be closed. Burial will be in Sterling Community Cemetery.
Memorials may be sent to Hospice House or Sterling College, both in care of the funeral home.

SYLVIA – Theodore R. Wilt, 89, died March 12, 2006, at Infinia Health Care Center.
He was born Jan. 21, 1917, in Plevna, the son of Harry Oscar and Edna Clement Wilt. A lifetime Sylvia and Reno County resident, he worked in maintenance at K.S.I.R., had his own repair shop and worked as a mechanic at the former Chevrolet dealership in Sylvia.
He served in the U.S. Air Force during World War II.
Survivors include: two brothers, Warren, Abbyville, and Woody, Nickerson; and several nephews and nieces.
He was preceded in death by three brothers, Clarence, Ralph and George; and a sister, Virginia Hunt.
Funeral will be at 9:30 a.m. Thursday at Elliott Chapel, Hutchinson, with the Rev. Tim Elsner presiding. Visitation will be from 9 a.m. to 9 p.m. Tuesday and Wednesday at the funeral home. Burial will be in Sterling Cemetery.

BLOOMINGTON, Minn. – Harlan R. Martin, 89, died Oct. 12, 2005.
He was born July 25, 1916, in Hutchinson, the son of Vennie and Hazel Moon Martin and Gertrude Martin. A former Hutchinson resident, he was a 35-year employee of the St. Paul Companies.
He belonged to Forest Park Presbyterian Church, Hutchinson. He served in the U.S. Navy during World War II.
Survivors include: his wife, Maurine; a son, Brad; a daughter, Margaret Jessen; two grandchildren, Dameon and Michael; and a great-grandchild, Jack.
Funeral will be at 2 p.m. Tuesday at Forest Park Presbyterian Church, with the Rev. Chris Davis presiding. Burial will be in Sterling City Cemetery, with military graveside rites conducted by the Fort Riley Honor Guard.

Harlan’s mother, Hazel Belle (Moon) Martin died when Harlan was 1 1/2 yrs. old. His next mother Gertrude Martin is buried in Memorial Park, Hutchinson, KS.

Rev. Alfred A. Kelsey died Sept. 17, 2005. He was born Aug. 12, 1912, in East Liverpool, OH, the fourth child of Hugh A and Luella(Espy)Kelsey. He lived in Cambridge and New Concord, OH and Sterling, KS where he graduated from Sterling College. After graduating from Pittsburgh Xenia Seminary in Pittsburgh, PA, he was married to Margaret Edgar in Sterling, KS in 1937. To them were born one daughter and two sons. He served Presbyterian pastorates in Tildon, IL and Bloomington, IN before entering the Army as a chaplain during World War II. He served in California, the South Pacific and Hawaii. Following the war, he pastored the Presbyterian Church, College Springs, IA. Being recalled to the Air Force during the Korean Conflict, he served in Topeka, KS and Tampa, FL. Following active service, having attained the rank of Colonel, he was pastor of Palma Ceia Presbyterian Church, Tampa, FL, organizing pastor of Calvin Presbyterian Church, Cedar Rapids, IA, pastor of Westminster in Sioux City, IA and West Plains in West Plains, MO. Following retirement, he served numerous interim pastorates in Missouri and Kansas before moving with Margaret to the Presbyterian Manor in Sterling, KS. Margaret preceded him in death in 1998. Alfred moved to the Presbyterian Manor in Wichita where he met and married Miriam (Young) Pack in 2004. He is survived by daughter, Mary Lue Sjostrom, Redmond, WA, son, Don Kelsey(Penny), Columbus, IN and Phil Kelsey (Barb), Wichita. He has eight grandchildren, ten great-grandchildren, and five great-great-grandchildren. Miriam’s sons are Garret Pack, Laguna Beach, CA and Dave Pack, Lenexa, KS. Burial will be in the Sterling Cemetery, Sterling, Kansas following the funeral services in the Chapel at Eastminster Presbyterian Church, Wichita, KS.
On May 1, 1960, the present church building, 715 38th Street S.E., was completed and dedicated. The Rev. Alfred A. Kelsey served as pastor until February, 1968. He and his wife, Margaret, and their children, Donald R., Mary L., and Philip A., lived in the manse until he was called to another congregation.
