Some years following Frank’s death, Anna married widower Hiram Smith. Anna built a home at 415 N. 7th Street, adjacent to the Sterling Presbyterian Manor with connected services and at her death gifted it to the Manor. She lived to be age 92

Vivian D. McFadden NICKERSON- Vivian D. McFadden, 97, died April 9, 2007, at Good Samaritan Center, Hutchinson. She was born Feb. 6, 1910, in rural Alden, the daughter of Burt W. and Cese Emma Monson Vincent. She graduated from Reno County High School in Nickerson, received a bachelor of arts degree from Sterling College and had worked on a master’s at Emporia State University. A resident of Nickerson, she was a retired schoolteacher, started teaching at Mennonite Country School southwest of Sterling and taught all eight grades, and taught third grade a Nickerson for 16 years.She belonged to Nickerson United Methodist Church. She was past president of the UMW at the church, taught Sunday school for 20 years, served on many church boards, holds the longest church membership, member of the Phi Gamma Mu Sorority, the NEA, The Knife and Fork Club, the Retired Teachers Association, the Community SS Club in Nickerson, the Nickerson Library Board, American Association Of Univ. Women, past member of the YWCA and helped with Girl Scouts and 4-H.She enjoyed reading, needlework and loved working with children. On May 8, 1932, she married Damon H. McFadden in Nickerson. He died on  April 4, 1992.Survivors include two daughters, Karen J. Russell, Hutchinson, and Cheryl A. Lahar and husband, Jim, Lucas, Texas; four grandchildren; and five great-grandchildren. She was preceded in death by her parents. Funeral will be at 1 p.m. Thursday at Nickerson United Methodist Church with the Rev. Ron Lowry presiding. Visitation is from 9 a.m. until 9 p.m. Wednesday, with family present from 7 to 8 p.m., at Elliott Mortuary, Hutchinson. Burial will be in Sterling Cemetery. PHOENIX, AZ- Corey McClellan Primavera, Phoenix, AZ, passed away peacefully March 11, 2007 at her sisters home in Topeka surrounded by family. Corey died after a short and very courageous battle with cancer. Corey was born May 29, 1959 in Hutchison, KS and spent most of her childhood in Manhattan, KS where she attended public schools. She later moved to Great Bend, Colorado and Phoenix where she graduated from the University of Phoenix with a Bachelors of Science degree in Business Management. She was currently a Regional Sales Manager for Monster.Com. Corey was an inspiration to every life she touched and will be greatly missed by those who knew her. Corey was preceded in death by grandparents, Harold and Dorothy Neal (Sterling, KS) and Buzon and Peggy McClellan (Hutchison, KS). Survivors are her son, Gregory Curtis (Phoenix); long-time companion, Dominick Perzi (Phoenix); her father, Gene McClellan and wife Delores (Phoenix); mother Patricia McClellan; sisters, Cindy Renyer (Steve) and Chez McClellan (Kendra); nephews, Lari Wofford, Cody, Kyle, and Jerek McClellan; nieces, Lyrique Wofford and Jadyn McClellan, all of Topeka. Sterling – Ruby A McCutcheon, 70, died Feb. 5, 2007, at Presbyterian Manor, Sterling.

She was born April 15, 1936, in Denver, the daughter of Floyd and Lillian Gilliland Pride. A resident of Sterling since 1971, she was a homemaker.

She was a former member of A.M.E. Church and the Women’s Bowling League, both of Sterling.

On Aug. 13, 1964, she married Charles McCutcheon in Denver. He died March 31, 1979.

Survivors include a son, Charles ‘Chuck’, Sterling; a daughter, Jacqueline ‘Jackie’ Faris, Hutchinson; two brothers, Floyd Pride, Denver, and Johnny Pride, a sister, Sara Lee, Lakewood, Colo., and two grandchildren.

She was preceded in death by two sisters, Jewell Hall and Thelma.

Funeral will be at 10 a.m. Wednesday at United Presbyterian Church, Sterling, with Rev. Robert Friesen presiding. Burial will be in Sterling Community Cemetery.

Sterling – Glenn Ellery Bruer of Sterling, Kansas, longtime resident of Hutchinson, beloved husband of the late Elizabeth Norma Bruer for 53 years, son of Joseph E. Bruer and Evelyn Spencer Hayes of Hutchinson, died on June 17, 2005.  He was a graduate of Sterling High School and was enrolled at Hutchinson Junior College in Engineering until his induction in the Army in 1942.

He served in Central Europe during WW II with the 384th Field Artillery Battalion as a cannoneer, until his discharge in 1946. He was employed by the Boeing Military Airplane Company at Wichita until 1962, as an aircraft assembly supervisor. He returned to Hutchinson where he lived until his death.  He was married in Wichita in March 1952.

He is survived by three children in marriage; Beverly Homes Berry, Ellicott City, Md., Linda Holmes Frisbie, Phoenix, and J.R. Hays, Lathrop, Calif.; a sister, Sharon Bruer Venable, San Antonio, 10 grandchildren; and 11 great-grandchildren.

Body by his request was donated to Kansas University Medical School.  Memorial service will be held at a later date.

Loyd D. Fenwick, 58, died Dec. 5, 2006, at Hutchinson Hospital.  He was born March 27, 1948, in Sterling, the son of Raymond and Viola Hauschild Fenwick. A lifetime resident of Sterling, he was a waste disposal management driver for Drake Disposal.

He was a U.S. Army veteran, serving during the Vietnam War. On Feb. 29, 1968, he married Pat Diest in rural Sterling. She survives.

Other survivors include two sons, James and wife Jenny, and Terry, all of Sterling; a daughter: Tracey Boele and husband, John, Sterling; a sister, Charlene Wozny, and husband, Jim, Omaha, Neb.; and five grandchildren, Nick, Shelbi, Caleb, Bryant, and Kylie.

He was preceded in death by his parents.

Funeral will be at 2:30 p.m. Friday at Sillin Funeral Home, Sterling. Visitation will be from 9 a.m. until service time Friday at the funeral home. The casket will remain closed. Burial will be in Sterling Community Cemetery.

He was a former member of the Brewster Lions Club, Masonic Lodge No. 348, Hoxie, was past master of the Masonic Lodge, Winona, past commander of the American Legion, Brewster, Phi Delta Kappa and the Phi Delta Kappa National Education Fraternity. He served in the US Navy during World War II in the Asiatic Pacific Arena.On Nov. 6, 1947, he married Blanche Crawford in Sterling. She survives. Dale Hazlett, 95, of Topeka died Saturday, November 18, 2006. He was born on July 23, 1911 in Sterling, KS. the son of Joseph and Vaughn (Pearce) Hazlett. He was raised in Sterling, KS. and graduated from Sterling High School in 1928. He attended Sterling College and Kansas University. Dale’s family was in the gas station business in the early years. Dale was a partner in the Haney and Hazlett Grocery Store. He then entered the banking business in Sterling for 45 years. After selling the bank, Dale moved to Topeka where he was in the financial services area until his 90th birthday. Dale was active in the Presbyterian churches of Sterling and Topeka. He served on the Board of Directors of Sterling College and on the Board of Education of Sterling Public Schools during which time he was a leader in the consolidation of area school districts. Dale married Cleo Alberta Rankin on April 12, 1933. She preceded him in death in 1987. Surviving are son, Don F. Hazlett and his wife Sandra of Lawrence, KS., and daughter, Sue Engelland her husband James of Ft. Worth, TX. Also surviving are five grandchildren, Laura Engelland and husband Heath Sossaman from Bellville, TX, Beth Engelland, Austin, TX, Marilla Trigg Hazlett and husband Brian Trigg, McClouth, KS, Dale Thomas Hazlett and wife Leslie, Lawrence, KS, and Michael Hazlett and wife Stephanie of Ft. Collins, CO. He is also survived by five great-grandchildren, Audrey Sossaman and Ella Sossaman, Gillian and Kalen Hazlett, and Olivia Hazlett. Long time companion Jean Jones of Topeka also survives him. Funeral will be at 10 a.m. Saturday at Penwell-Gabel Funeral Home and Crematory, Hutchinson, with Pastor Betty Pinkston presiding. Visitation will be from 1 to 9 p.m. Friday with the family present from 5 to 8 p.m. at the funeral home. Interment will be in Sterling Community Cemetery.

Maurine P. Fair, 93, of Fort Collins, passed away October 14, 2006, at Columbine Care Center West in Fort Collins. She was born May 3, 1913, in Gardner, Kan., to Walter Raleigh and Mary Ella (Shean) Pearce. Maurine married Daniel Jasper Fair III on Sept. 10, 1933, in Olathe, Kan. Maurine attended the University of Kansas and received her bachelor’s degree from Washburn University in Topeka, Kan. She was a member of PEO Chapter G in Fort Collins, Northern Colorado Weavers Guild and Chi Omega Fraternity, Lambda Chapter. She is survived by one son Daniel Jasper Fair IV of Fort Collins, and one daughter, Sylvia Sue (Fair) Ryan of Oklahoma City, Okla. She is also survived by four grandchildren and three great-grandchildren. Maurine is preceded in death by her husband, Daniel J. Fair III in 1991, her parents Walter Raleigh and Mary Ella (Shean) Pearce, and a brother Dennis Shean Pearce. Memorial services will be 11 a.m. Thursday, Oct. 26, at the First United Methodist Church in Fort Collins. Friends who wish may give to the First United Methodist Church, 1005 Stover, Fort Collins, CO 80524.A private family interment is scheduled at the Sterling, Kan. Cemetery.
