Maxine Virginia Miller died May 13, 2007 at her home. She was born on Jan 26, 1923, in Bushong, the daughter of John and Grace Roberts Hill. She was a longtime resident of Hutchinson. She graduated from Sterling High School. She was the manager of the former Duckwalls/Ben Franklin Stores. She was a member of the Red Hat Society, longtime volunteer at the Delos V Smith Senior Center and Friends of the Hutchinson Public Library. On Aug 16, 1942, she married Edwin Miller in Abilene. He survives. Other survivors include: two daughters, Judy Corcoran, Hutchinson, and Jana Miller, Park City, Utah; two sisters, Josephine Van Horn, Wichita, Darlene Andsager, Hutchinson; three grandchildren, Lisa Corcoran, David and wife, Shawnah Corcoran, and Susan Corcoran; and three great-grandchildren, Brett Corcoran, Becky Day and Tyler Day; and her constant companion, her schnauzer, Sophie. Wedding of Miss Scoresby and Gleeman Long
Miss Jean Margaret Scoresby and Gleeman Long of Sterling, were married Tuesday afternoon at 4:30, in the home of the bride’s parents, Mr. and Mrs. F. S. Scoresby on East Main Street. Rev. C.T. Carson was the officiating minister. The couple was unattended.
The bride wore a street-length dress of rose velvet, with accessories of black. Her corsage was of white chrysanthemums.
Following the ceremony, a wedding supper was served to members of the immediate family, after which Mr. and Mrs. Long left, on the Santa Fe for a honeymoon in Colorado. For traveling, the bride wore a sports dress of dark green corduroy, with a beige coat.
Mr. and Mrs. Long will be at home in Lakin, where the former will be associated with his brother-in-law Kendall Piper, in working for the White Eagle Oil Company.
Mrs. Long is a graduate of Sterling High School and Christian College at Columbia, Mo. Mr. Long received his degree from Sterling College, last spring, and this summer has been the manager at Sterling Lake.

Anna Hildebrand served as Sterling College Cafeteria manager for many years. Frank Smisor, a local entrepreneur, married Anna when neither one was ‘young’ and together they served Sterling College. Smisor Stadium was a gift of Frank and Anna.
Some years following Frank’s death, Anna married widower Hiram Smith. Anna built a home at 415 N. 7th Street, adjacent to the Sterling Presbyterian Manor with connected services and at her death gifted it to the Manor. She lived to be age 92

Ruby A. McCutcheon
Sterling – Ruby A McCutcheon, 70, died Feb. 5, 2007, at Presbyterian Manor, Sterling.
She was born April 15, 1936, in Denver, the daughter of Floyd and Lillian Gilliland Pride. A resident of Sterling since 1971, she was a homemaker.
She was a former member of A.M.E. Church and the Women’s Bowling League, both of Sterling.
On Aug. 13, 1964, she married Charles McCutcheon in Denver. He died March 31, 1979.
Survivors include a son, Charles ‘Chuck’, Sterling; a daughter, Jacqueline ‘Jackie’ Faris, Hutchinson; two brothers, Floyd Pride, Denver, and Johnny Pride, a sister, Sara Lee, Lakewood, Colo., and two grandchildren.
She was preceded in death by two sisters, Jewell Hall and Thelma.
Funeral will be at 10 a.m. Wednesday at United Presbyterian Church, Sterling, with Rev. Robert Friesen presiding. Burial will be in Sterling Community Cemetery.
Memorials may be sent to Sterling Presbyterian Manor, in care of Sillin Funeral Home, Sterling.

Sterling – Glenn Ellery Bruer of Sterling, Kansas, longtime resident of Hutchinson, beloved husband of the late Elizabeth Norma Bruer for 53 years, son of Joseph E. Bruer and Evelyn Spencer Hayes of Hutchinson, died on June 17, 2005. He was a graduate of Sterling High School and was enrolled at Hutchinson Junior College in Engineering until his induction in the Army in 1942.
He served in Central Europe during WW II with the 384th Field Artillery Battalion as a cannoneer, until his discharge in 1946. He was employed by the Boeing Military Airplane Company at Wichita until 1962, as an aircraft assembly supervisor. He returned to Hutchinson where he lived until his death. He was married in Wichita in March 1952.
He is survived by three children in marriage; Beverly Homes Berry, Ellicott City, Md., Linda Holmes Frisbie, Phoenix, and J.R. Hays, Lathrop, Calif.; a sister, Sharon Bruer Venable, San Antonio, 10 grandchildren; and 11 great-grandchildren.
Body by his request was donated to Kansas University Medical School. Memorial service will be held at a later date.

Loyd D. Fenwick, 58, died Dec. 5, 2006, at Hutchinson Hospital. He was born March 27, 1948, in Sterling, the son of Raymond and Viola Hauschild Fenwick. A lifetime resident of Sterling, he was a waste disposal management driver for Drake Disposal.
He was a U.S. Army veteran, serving during the Vietnam War. On Feb. 29, 1968, he married Pat Diest in rural Sterling. She survives.
Other survivors include two sons, James and wife Jenny, and Terry, all of Sterling; a daughter: Tracey Boele and husband, John, Sterling; a sister, Charlene Wozny, and husband, Jim, Omaha, Neb.; and five grandchildren, Nick, Shelbi, Caleb, Bryant, and Kylie.
He was preceded in death by his parents.
Funeral will be at 2:30 p.m. Friday at Sillin Funeral Home, Sterling. Visitation will be from 9 a.m. until service time Friday at the funeral home. The casket will remain closed. Burial will be in Sterling Community Cemetery.
