Sylvester Bennett was born in South Webster, Scioto County, Ohio, in 1829. Came to Kansas in 1879 and has resided continuously at the present home in Medford township. Was married to Elevine Cable, who survives him, on July 4th, 1852. Nine children were born of this union, five of whom survive him? Mrs. J. C. Templeton of Guthrie, Okla., Mrs. Dug White, Sterling, Kansas, Mr. J. N. Bennett, Clarks, LA, Mr. G. E. Bennett, Hoisington, Kansas, Mr. H. R. Bennett, Medford township.
Sylvester Bennett was the son of Rev. John Bennett, who was pastor for fifty years of Bloom Baptist church, South Webster, Ohio, and united with the church at the age of twenty. Removed his membership to the first Baptist church of Sterling of which he was a member at the time of his death.
Died May 24, 1912, ages 83 years and four days.

Sylvester Bennett and family intend starting for Kansas, next Tuesday, the 11th last. His son, S. C. Bennett, has been there since last fall, going from Scotia Furnace, Mo., and has bought a good farm, well improved. The family of Mr. Lafayette Holmes is going with Mr. Bennett, Mr. Holmes having been there since last spring. He also has a good home provided in which to receive his family. May joy and prosperity be theirs.

Miles Belote was the son of Isaac “Ike” Milton Belote and Floraalis “Flora” Belote. He was killed in a coal mine accident in Pittsburg, Kansas at age 19, He is buried in an unmarked grave near his mother and maternal grandparents, Charles and Sarah Kelley. He is buried in the Sterling, Kansas cemetery.

Burial in the Sterling Community Cemetery will follow services for Myra Cassidy Barr at 2 p.m. tomorrow at the United Methodist Church in Nickerson. The Rev. Daniel Raines will officiate.
Mrs. Barr of Nickerson died yesterday in the Hutchinson Hospital at the age of 80.
Born July 23, 1911, in Sylvia to Orville and Carrie Baker Harvey, she married Lawrence Cassidy on January 7, 1932, in Reno County. He died on February 14, 1970. In October 1974, she married Herbert Harrison in Hutchinson. He died in October 1976. On April 8, 1978, she married Samuel Lester Barr in Alden.
She had been a longtime resident of Nickerson and was a retired seamstress. Memberships included the United Methodist Church and United Methodist Women of Nickerson, the Grace Rebekah Lodge of Sterling, the Santa Fe Trailers and Mid-K Campers.
Survivors are her husband; four daughters, Patricia Sorem of Corvallis, Ore., Barbara Mitchell of Denver, Janice Stoll of Rice Lake, WIsc., and Nancy Stonebraker of Ellsworth; 10 grandchildren and four great-grandchildren.
Friends may call at Porter and Sillin Funeral Home in Sterling until 8 this evening and from 9 until 11 a.m. tomorrow.
A memorial fund has been started for the American Cancer Society, in care of the funeral home.
