STERLING – Rex Linder, 80, died November 3, 2012, at his home, Sterling. He was born November 23, 1931, in Texas County, Oklahoma, the son of Roy E. and Cora A. Hobbs Linder. He Graduated from Turon High School and attended Hutchinson Community College and Emporia State University. He was a resident of Clay Center, Kansas from 1972 to 1997, and the last 15 years has been a Sterling, Kansas resident. He worked for 10 years for Key Poultry Farm, Clay Center, Ks, and 10 years at USD 379 Clay County School District. He retired after 22 years from the US Army as a SFC, and served during the Vietnam War.
He belonged to the United Methodist Church, American Legion Sterling, Ks, the D.A.V., and Coffee call at Paddy’s. He loved gardening, hunting, fishing, avid reader most of all enjoyed spending time with his family.

On September 28, 1958, he married Ila Marie Proffitt at Sterling United Methodist Church. Survivors include: his wife of 54 years, Ila Marie Linder; his children, Cathy Lutz, Omaha, Neb., Roger and wife Connie, Leavenworth, Ks, Michael and wife Kerri, Hutchinson, Ks, and Nancy and husband Tom Rundel, Colby, Ks; siblings, Lucille Vernon, Grove, Okla.; Orival and wife Jean Linder, Clay Center, Ks, and Gladys Smith and husband Palmer, Tyler, Texas; 10 grandchildren; and many nieces and nephews. He was preceded in death by his parents, and brothers, Earl, Lee, LB, and Jimmy Linder, and sisters, Ula Bowman, Patsy Stout and Irene Baker

Funeral will be at 10 a.m., Thursday, November 8, 2012, at the Sterling United Methodist Church, with the Rev. Marvin Ewertt presiding. Visitation will be from 2 to 7 p.m. Wednesday November 7, 2012, at Birzer Funeral Home, Sterling, with the family present from 5 to 7 p.m. Burial will be in Sterling Community Cemetery. Memorials may be sent to Sterling United Methodist Church, or the American Diabetes Association, both in care of the funeral home.

A Sterling resident since 1969, formerly of Hutchinson, she graduated from Rolla High School in 1949 and she was a homemaker. Her memberships included: Sterling Garden Club and United Methodist Ladies Auxiliary, both of Sterling.

On May 22, 1949, she married Clarence Rauh Jr. in Rolla, Kan. Survivors include: her husband, Clarence of the home; two sons, Michael L. and wife Marge of Loveland, Colo. and Eric E. and wife Tresa of McPherson; three daughters, Rosemary A. and husband Terry Mountain of Hutchinson, Teresa G. and husband Jim Ryan of Columbus, Kan., and Kimberly K. and husband Steve Reiter of Olathe; a sister, Ruth Gimball of Springfield, Ore.; 14 grandchildren, 21 great-grandchildren and two great great-grandchildren. She was preceded in death by her parents; two great-grandchildren; two brothers, J.D. Hunt and George Hunt; and a sister, Yveeta Weese.

LYONS – Tommy L. Hunt, 70, died May 10, 2012, at Via Christi Hospital on St. Francis, Wichita. He was born June 28, 1941, in Hutchinson, Kansas, to Johnie C. and Helen Lereta Bowlin Hunt.
A lifetime resident of Rice County, having lived in Lyons for 46 years, he was retired from the Missouri Pacific Railroad. He served in the U.S. Marines during the Vietnam War.

He was a former member of the VFW, Lyons, was an avid Dirt Track Racer and coyote hunter.

On Oct. 16, 1965, he married Diana Pool in Hutchinson. She survives. Other survivors include: a son, Jack, Lyons; two daughters, Tammy and Jon Darling, Alden, and Tomisha and Joe Young, Moundridge; seven grandchildren, Brandon Darling, Shailey Darling, Nikolas Darling, Harlee Mead, Shelby Mead, Cally Mead and Tymora Dahl; and two great-grandchildren, Jackson, and Emmitt.

He was preceded in death by his parents.

Graveside service will be at 10:30 a.m. Wednesday, May 16, 2012, in Sterling Community Cemetery, Sterling, with military honors by the U.S. Marine Corps with the Rev. Matthew Pool presiding. Visitation will be from 2 to 7 p.m. Tuesday, May 15, 2012, at Birzer Funeral Home, Lyons. Memorials may be sent to Friends of Animals, in care of the funeral home.
