Sterling – Emery W. ‘Charlie’ Farrell, 95, died July 25, 2001, at Sterling Presbyterian Manor, Sterling.  He was born May 26, 1906, at Lancaster, Mo., the son of Frank D. and Myrtle Farrell. A Sterling resident since 1926, he was a retired president of First National Bank, Sterling. He was a US Navy veteran of World War II.  He belonged to United Methodist Church and American Legion, both of Sterling.

On Dec. 25, 1927, he married Eva N. Gatts at Greentop, Mo. She died Jan. 2 1998.  Survivors include a son, Frank, Agoura, Calif., a daughter, Mary Charlene Roberts, Charlotte, N.C.; a sister, Mary Vogel, Hawthorne, Calif., seven grandchildren, and five great-grandchildren.

Graveside service will be at 10:30 a.m. Tuesday at Sterling Community Cemetery with the Rev. Glen Holman presiding.

Allan H. Ferguson, 61, of Hutchinson, died Sunday, Feb. 8, 2009, at Hospice House in Hutchinson.He was born March 23, 1947, in Holdenville, Okla., to Hoyt and Minella Lee (Wright) Ferguson. He graduated from Garden City High School in 1965 and attended Garden City Community College.A resident of Hutchinson since 1972, Mr. Ferguson was employed by Dillon Stores before taking medical retirement in 1992. He was a member of Eastwood Church of Christ and served in the U.S. Air Force.Survivors include his wife, Patsy “Patti” Ferguson, whom he married on April 13, 1969, in Garden City; a sister, Earlene Ploger of Pratt; a brother, Russell Ferguson of Colorado Springs, Colo.; six nephews; and three nieces. W.E. Fulton (Pegg) was hospitalized in Oklahoma City for over 6 months with a tumor on his brain and as removal of an infected mastoid.  His wife (Pearl Carson) was by his bedside during that time with only occasional visits home. Helen was senior in high school, she and her brother, Robert E. Fulton, were responsible for the complete care of the three younger children (Edgar Lee, Virginia Raye and Peggy Ann).  They took care of all the household chores, including cooking, washing with a ringer washer, and ironing.

Pearl Fulton

Pearl Fulton, the former owner of the Sterling Cafe and a resident of the community since 1945, died yesterday in the District Hospital at the age of 82.

Born November 13, 1908, in DeQueen, Ark., to Marcus Benjamin and Watsey Elizabeth Reese Carson, she married W.E. ‘Pegg’ Fulton on June 27, 1925, in Dierks, Ark. He died on July 7, 1965.

She and her husband moved to Sterling in 1945 and opened the Sterling Cafe. She was a member of the Christian Church.

Survivors are two sons, Robert E. and Edgar L., both of Sterling; three daughters, Helen M Henry of Sterling, Virginia R. Lewis of Great Bend and Peggy Ann McQuin of Perry, OK; two brothers, A.S. Carson of Dickinson, Texas and Mark Carson of Sterling; 16 grandchildren and 27 great-grandchildren. She was preceded in death by two grandsons, Brent Henry, and Scott Fulton.

The Rev. James Graves will conduct a funeral at 2 p.m. Thursday at Porter and Sillin Funeral Home. Burial will be in the Sterling Community Cemetery.

Friends may call from 3 until 8 p.m. Wednesday at the funeral home.

The family suggests memorial donations to the D. Joe Henry Scholarship Fund at Sterling College.

Thelma B. Forwalder, 97, died Jan. 18, 2008, at Mennonite Manor, South Hutchinson.She was born Dec. 22, 1910, in rural Pratt, the daughter of Nathan O. and Mary Jane Redfern Jones. She graduated from Liberal High School, and attended Wichita Business College. A longtime resident of Hutchinson, formerly of Wichita and Sterling, moving to Mennonite Manor in 1995, she was a retired secretary for Columbian Securities of Wichita, was a volunteer secretary for her church, and secretary for Sterling Savings and Loan, and the Savings and Loan of Pratt.

She belonged to the Sterling United Methodist Church, P.C. Club, Sterling, R.S.V.P. and the Women’s Auxiliary at Hutchinson Hospital.

On Feb. 3, 1943, she married Forest G. Forwalder in Sterling. He died April 1, 1982.

Survivors include: two sons, Richard F., Andover, and James B., Bonner Springs; four grandchildren; seven great-grandchildren; a nephew; and a niece.

She was preceded in death by a brother, Wilbur Jones and a sister, Betty Mezger.

Graveside service will be at 1:30 p.m. Wednesday in Sterling Community Cemetery. Visitation will be from 9 a.m. to 9 p.m. Tuesday and from 9 to 11 a.m. Wednesday at Elliott Mortuary, Hutchinson.

Harry R. Foster, 66, died September 4, 2009, at his home in Hutchinson.

He was born December 26, 1942, in Sterling, KS, the son of Arthur Ross and Doris Magoffin Foster.

He received his B.S. in Mathematics from Kansas State. Harry was a finance cost analyst at Boeing for 32 years, retiring in 1998. He was an avid golfer.

On June 23, 1973, he married Nancy “Jill” Jenkins in Advance, Missouri.  She survives.

Other survivors include: two sons, William Ross Foster and Terry Ray Foster, both of Kennewick, Wash.; and his mother, Doris Foster of Hutchinson.

He was preceded in death by his father, Arthur Ross Foster.

Graveside service will be at 2 p.m. Wednesday, September 9, 2009, in Sterling Community Cemetery, with Chaplain Art Maddock presiding. Friends may sign the register from 9 a.m. to 9 p.m. Tuesday at Elliott Mortuary, Hutchinson.
