Jacob B. “Jake” Miller Jr., 93, of Moore, Okla., died Sept. 11, 2011, at his daughter’s home in Moore, Okla. He was born Aug. 27, 1918, in El Dorado, Kan., the son of Jacob Bert, Sr. and Bertha M. Hollenbeck Miller. He was a longtime Hutchinson resident, moving to Moore in 2006. He was a 1937 graduate of Nickerson High School and a retired conductor with Missouri Pacific Railroad. He was a member of First United Methodist Church of Hutchinson and Mesa, Ariz., Hutchinson Moose Lodge #982, Geneseo, Kansas Masonic Lodge; he was a Shriner and a member of the Scottish Rite, a member of the United Transportation Union and the American Legion. On May 19, 1939, he married Lois M. Magoffin in Sterling, Kan. She died on July 8, 2003. Survivors include: son, James D. and Carolyn Miller of Denton, Texas; daughter, Lynn Miller-Walters and significant other Donny Vennochi of Moore, Okla.; five grandchildren and spouses, Shane and Debbie Miller, Shannon and Clint Hicks, Jason and Michelle Harrell, Jeremy and Jodi Harrell, and Jarvis and Jessie Walters; eight great-grandchildren, Jacob and Jessamy Harrell of Hutchinson and Cody Miller, Clayton and Caroline Hicks, Abigail and McKayla Harrell; and sister-in-law, Doris Foster of Hutchinson. Graveside service will be held at 1 p.m. Saturday, Sept. 17, 2011, at Sterling Community Cemetery, with Rev. Mark Conard officiating. Friends may call from 9 a.m. to 4 p.m. Friday, Sept. 16, 2011, at Elliott Mortuary, Hutchinson. In lieu of flowers, memorials may be sent to Faith Hospice of Norman, Okla., in care of the mortuary. Elijah was the husband of Margaret Geneva “Dot” (Baker) Morrison (1852-1926). He was the son of William P. Morrison and Suzannah (Tulles) Morrison and father of eight children including Charles, Susanna, Minnie, Cora, Lula, Lottie, and Albert Morrison. Elijah was a Veteran of the Union Army in the Civil War. He enlisted at age 19 on September 3, 1863, in Co. H, 8th Iowa Cavalry Volunteers. He was taken prisoner by the Confederate Army on July 30, 1864, at Newnan, Georgia and sent to Andersonville Prison. Elijah survived Andersonville and was mustered out on May 31, 1865, at Davenport, Iowa. Elijah R. Morrison is sometimes confused with his uncle, Elijah A. Morrison (1812-1896) who is buried in Wayne County, Iowa and who was a Veteran of the Missouri State Militia Cavalry.Family links:

Richard L ‘Dick’ Morris given name was Deckric Lafayette Morris was born on December 17, 1903, in Arkansas, his father, Frank, was 44 and his mother, Martha, was 34. He had one child with Mona Smith. He died on May 23, 1978, at the age of 74, and was buried in Wichita, Kansas.

Evelyn L. Morley, a lifetime resident of the Sterling community, died Friday, Dec. 22, 1995, at Lyons Good Samaritan Center, Lyons, at the age of 92. She was born July 26, 1913, at Sterling, the daughter of Jamison Dunn and Elsie Mills Miller. She was a homemaker.
She was a member of the Reformed Presbyterian Church and Silver Threads, both of Sterling. On Oct. 14, 1930, she married Bennie Harley Morley at Kansas City, Mo. He died May 19, 1975.
Survivors include two daughters, Bonnie Haile, Sterling, and Wynona White, Imperial, Neb.; eight grandchildren and 17 great-grandchildren.
Services were held at 11 a.m. Wednesday at the Reformed Presbyterian Church, Sterling, with the Rev. Dennis Prutow and Craig Cardel officiating. Burial was in the Sterling Community Cemetery.
