Rozetta McMurphy — Rozetta McMurphy, a lifetime resident of the Sterling area, died July 25 at the Presbyterian Manor at the age of 89. She was born Rozetta Dembo Jan 13, 1889, at Carden, Indiana and was married to Luther A. McMurphy Nov 26, 1906 at Lyons. He died March 9, 1995. She was a member of the Methodist Church and Modern Priscilla Club. –Survivors include sons, Alonzo LeRoy, Nelvin R., Marvin H., and Glen W., all of Sterling; stepdaughter, Mrs. Mabel Humphreys, Sterling; daughter, Mrs. Hazel Tyler, Oklahoma City, Oklahoma; sisters, Mrs. Woody Coffin, Hutchinson, and Mrs. Rilla Vickers, Ellinwood; 22 grandchildren, 30 great-grandchildren and four great-great-grandchildren. — Services will be held today, July 27, at 10:30 a.m. at the Porter and Sillin Funeral Home with the Rev. STERLING – Mary Lu McNutt, 67, died Nov. 30, 2010, at Hospice House in Hutchinson. She was born Aug. 13, 1943, in Chase, Kan., to Ralph B. Sr. and Violet Ilene Wolfe McNutt. She was a lifetime Sterling resident. For 46 years she worked for the Farmers Co-op Union in Sterling. She graduated from Sterling High School in 1961 and Salt City Business College in Hutchinson. Survivors include: sisters, Linda McNutt of Sterling, Teri Eskandari of Phoenix, Ariz., and Carole Bengston of Inman, Kan.; brother, Earl McNutt of Sterling; seven nieces and five nephews. She was preceded in death by her parents, and brothers, Larry, Ralph Jr., Jerry, Russell and Tom McNutt. Funeral will be at 1:30 p.m. Saturday, Dec. 4, 2010, at Birzer Funeral Home, Sterling, with Reverend Robert Friesen officiating. Burial at Sterling Community Cemetery. Visitation 9 a.m. to service time Saturday at the funeral home. The casket will remain closed. Memorials may be sent to Center for Basic Cancer Research KSU.

He was a lifetime resident of Sterling. He graduated from Sterling High School in 1958. He was an oil field worker and dog trainer. He was a member of American Kennel Association and Ducks Unlimited.
He married Tammy Goering on Feb. 5, 2000, in Lyons. He is survived by his wife of the home; two sons, Brad McNutt of Wichita and Doug McNutt of Tennessee; one daughter, Emily McNutt of New York; two step-daughters, Erin and Julia Ferguson of the home; two sister, Linda McNutt of Sterling and Teri Eskandari of Phoenix, Ariz.; grandchildren and great-grandchildren.
He was preceded in death by parents; four brothers, Ralph, Russell, Larry and Tom McNutt and one sister, Mary Lu McNutt.
Funeral service will be Tuesday, Dec. 6, 2011 at 10:30 a.m. at Birzer Funeral Home in Sterling with Chaplain Richy Beach officiating. Burial will be at Sterling Community Cemetery. Memorials can be made to Rice County Ducks Unlimited Chapter.

STERLING – Richard “Dick” Mead, 83, died Nov. 26, 2012, at Wesley Medical Center, Wichita. He was born May 23, 1929, in Sterling, son of Rollin and Essie Smith Mead.
A Wichita resident since 2009, formerly of Sterling, he graduated from Sterling High School in 1947, was a retired President and Superintendent for Sterling Drilling Company and was a veteran of the U.S. Navy, having served during the Korean War. Memberships included: United Methodist Church, Rotary Club and was Past President of American Legion, all of Sterling.

He married Margaret “Beth” Terrill Oct. 30, 1955, in Sterling, Colo. She died March 31, 2012. Survivors include: three sons, Tom and Gayla Mead of Wichita, Randy and Sherrie Mead of Dubois, Idaho, and Chuck and Elizabeth Mead of Peabody; a daughter, Dixie Mead of Billings, Mont.; a sister, Betty Taylor; 16 grandchildren and 22 great-grandchildren. He was preceded in death by his parents; and two brothers, Roy and Harry Mead.

Funeral will be 10:30 a.m. Monday, Dec. 3, 2012, at the Sterling United Methodist Church, with Reverend Marvin Ewertt officiating. Burial will be in the Sterling Community Cemetery, with military honors by the U.S. Navy. Visitation will be from 4 to 6 p.m. with family present Sunday, Dec. 2, 2012, at Birzer Funeral Home, Sterling. Memorials to the Dick Mead Memorial Fund, in care of the funeral home.
