 Carla McConnelee, 71, died Oct. 4, 2010, at Harry Hynes Hospice in Wichita, Kan. She was born June 25, 1939, to Carl and Adelaide Carver Mershon. She graduated from Hutchinson High School in 1957 and from Sterling College in 1961. She was a retired teacher and enjoyed music and travel. She was a member of the First Presbyterian Church and American Guild of Organists. She married Bill McConnelee Aug. 9, 1962, in Hutchinson, Kan. He survives. Other survivors include: son, Carl and wife Cindy of Bedford, Va.; two daughters, Cathy Pohlman and husband Aaron of Hutchinson, and Cynthia Smith and husband Scott of Shoreline, Wash.; and seven grandchildren. Funeral service is 1 p.m. Saturday, Oct. 9, 2010, at the First Presbyterian Church with the Rev. Amy Dame officiating. Burial at Sterling Cemetery, Sterling, Kan. Friends may call 9 a.m. to 9 p.m. Thursday and Friday, with family receiving friends from 5 to 7 p.m. Friday, at Elliott Mortuary, Hutchinson. |

James Andrew McCandless was born on November 27, 1855, in Barren County, Kentucky. He married his first wife, Winifred Jane Mitchell, in 1874 in Adair County, Kentucky. In 1886 he married his second wife, Harriett Margaret Mitchell. Mr. McCandless was employed on the Santa Fe section. H e developed pneumonia and died on December 12, 1910, at the home of his son on West Jefferson St. in Sterling, at the age of 55.
Janie died in 1885 and James remarried.

William Manning
William “Jack” Manning, 61, of Hutchinson, Kan., died Monday, July 25, 2005, at Hospice House.
Born July 23, 1944, in Gulfport, Miss., he was the son of William Arthur “Bill” and Adonis Eylene “Donnis” Kreissler Manning, and an Army veteran of the Vietnam War. He was supervisor of planning and estimating for Vermillion Inc.
Survivors include his wife, Jacqueline M. “Jackie” McElroy Manning; a son, Darin Manning of Hutchinson; a daughter, Christel MacDonald of Hutchinson; a sister, Connie Brown and husband, Joe, of Russellville; a brother-in-law and sister-in-law, Bill and Susan McElroy of Woodbridge, Va.; four grandchildren, and several nephews and nieces including Bruce and Debbie Brown and David and Becky Brown, all of Russellville.
Funeral will be at 10 a.m. Thursday at Elliott Mortuary Chapel at Hutchinson, Kan. The body will be cremated.
Memorials may be made to Hospice of Reno County.
