A memorial gathering for Tyson Lee Proffitt, infant son of Richard and Sherri (Corbett) Proffitt will be held at 11:00 a.m. Tuesday, December 29, 2009 at First Southern Baptist Church in Eudora.  He was born on December 22, 2009 and died December 24, 2009 at Overland Park Regional Hospital in Overland Park, Kansas.

Survivors include his parents; one brother, Grady; a sister, Riley and a cousin, Emily Corbett  all of the home; maternal grandparents, Dennis and Sheryl Corbett of Lyons, KS; paternal grandparents, Terry and Susan Proffitt of Gallup, New Mexico; maternal great-grandmother, Lois Corbett of Osborne, KS; paternal great-grandparents, Faye Dressel of Sterling, KS; and Gerald and Twila Proffitt of Sterling, KS.

He was preceded in death by his paternal grandfather, Roddy Proffitt.

They had one child during their marriage. She died on June 23, 1992, in Rice County, Kansas, at the age of 80, and was buried in Sterling, Kansas.

Lifetime Alden and Sterling area resident Lutie G. Proffitt died yesterday, June 23, 1992, in the District Hospital at the age of 80.

Born July 31, 1911, in Sterling, she married J.M. Proffitt on February 15, 1930, in Great Bend. He died on February 4, 1987.

She was a resident of Sterling and a member of the United Methodist Church, United Methodist Women, Willing Esther Circle, Triumph EHU and Homemakers Club.

Survivors are three sons, Wayne of Alden and Billy and Gary of Sterling; a daughter, Ila Linder of Clay Center; a sister, Opal Long of Sterling; 16 grandchildren and 21 great-grandchildren.

The Rev. James Graves will conduct a funeral at 10:30 a.m. Friday at the church. Burial will be in the Sterling Community Cemetery.

Friends may call at Porter and Sillin Funeral Home from 3 until 8 p.m. Thursday.

The family suggests memorial gifts to the Sterling United Methodist Church Building Fund.

St. John – Erma L. Newby, 91, died Aug. 28, 2001, at Stafford District Hospital.

She was born April 4, 1910 at Sterling, the daughter of Frank and Leela Harper. She graduated from Sterling High School in 1929. A resident of Hutchinson for 58 years she was a homemaker before moving to St. John in 1998.

She belonged to the United Methodist Church, Hutchinson.

On April 15, 1933, She married D. J. Newby at Sterling. He died Nov. 10, 1976.

Survivors include: a son, Dee Jay, St. Charles, Ill.; a daughter Donita Hedrick, St. John; a brother, Delbert Harper, Sterling; a sister, Twila Proffitt, Alden; five grandchildren, and two great-grandchildren.

She was preceded in death by three brothers, LeRoy,  Verlin and Virgil Harper.

Service will be at 10 a.m. Saturday at Minnis Chapel, St. John, with the Rev. W. Harlan Rittgers presiding. Visitation will be from 1 to 8 p.m. Friday at the chapel.

Burial will be in Sterling Community Cemetery, Sterling.

Memorials may be sent to First United Methodist Church in St. John or Hutchinson.

 

Dee Jay Newby, 75, entered Heaven’s gates Sept. 20, 2015, surrounded by his family at Loyola University Center. Dee was born Dec. 23, 1939, in Sterling, to D.J. and Erma Harper Newby.
