Obituary:   Luther H. Turner

Luther H. Turner was born in Macoupin County, Illinois, March 28, 1868, and died in Sterling, Kansas Sept. 28, 1909, aged 41 years, and 6 months.  He left a wife and three children and will be missed by many friends and relatives around Sterling. Mrs. Ed Huffman, Mrs. Dave Beitler and Mrs. J. Wright of Byron, Okla., are sisters. Mrs. John Burk of Sterling is his niece. His father, Dennis Turner, is well known in Sterling and has the sympathy of many friends. Luther died of heart trouble after an illness of five weeks. Coming here from Evansville, Ind., where he has been visiting, he was taken ill and never recovered. His home was in Byron, Okla. Mrs. Turner of Evansville, Ind., Mr. Joe Turner of Bluff City, Kansas, Mr. Ben Reeves of Byron, Okla., and his wife and children were all here for his funeral on Wednesday.

Robert I. “Bob” Tucker, 77, retired business owner, died Friday, June 9, 2006, at his home in Sterling, KS. Graveside service 2:00 P.M. Tuesday, June 13, Sterling Kansas Municipal Cemetery. Bob was born February 5, 1929, in Kokomo, IN, the son of Herbert Aaron Tucker and Edna Celine Shuck. He attended High School in Kokomo, IN and vocational training in San Diego, CA. Bob was a veteran of the Korean War and served four years as an aircraft hydraulics instructor at Amarillo Air Force Base in Texas. He married Janice Carol Isaacson of Memphis, TN, on April 15, 1951. He was a retired small business owner in Lyons KS where he ran a Radio Shack franchise, Television repair (TV Clinic) and Antique store (Antique Junction). Bob had a great love of art and oil painting having recently tied for 1st place in an area art contest, as well as a great love for nature, a light-hearted humor, a devotion to educating the public on issues of Cult Awareness, hazardous nuclear waste, and supporting patients and families dealing with cancer. The family was formerly from San Diego, CA and Lyons, KS for 15 years, before residing in Sterling, KS for the past 14 years. Preceded in death by his parents Herbert and Edna Tucker, older brother Harris Abraham Tucker, an Army Air Corps pilot from WWII, a younger sister Patricia Ann Cheek, and two infant sisters. Survivors include; his devoted wife of 55 years, Janice Tucker of Sterling, KS; his two sons, Herbert and Brian Tucker, both from New Jersey; his granddaughter Rhiannon Andre-Tucker of Glendale, AZ, two sisters, Lou and her husband Don Frank of Spring Valley, CA and Marjorie Segal of Boynton Beach, FL; a younger brother, Carl “Smokey” Tucker and his wife Cheryl of Las Vegas, NV; a treasured exchange student/son, Kin Cheung and numerous nieces and nephews.

EWING…Janice Carol Tucker, 87, passed away Sunday, April 9, 2017, at her residence.

Born in Irvington, NJ, she attended South Western College and was a graduate of the University of Tennessee.

She met her husband at the Memphis Fairgrounds.

One of the early woman graduates of college, she worked as a medical technician and followed her husband who was a jet repair instructor on a military path in the Air Force during the Korean War.

She and her husband moved to Amarillo, Texas and later to San Diego, California where her two sons were born.

Relocating to Lyons, Kansas, her gift of finding unusual and new opportunities they opened “The Television Clinic, Antique Shop and Radio Shack.

In 1974 they retired to a house on a lake in Sterling, Kansas.

Wife of the late Robert Irving Tucker she is survived by two sons Herbert Tucker (Barbara Anderson) and Brian Tucker (Peter Matwijcow) and a granddaughter Rhiannon Berardi (Paul).

Funeral services are Thursday 1 PM (April 13)  at Orland’s Ewing Memorial Chapel, 1534 Pennington Road, Ewing. Burial will follow at Ewing Cemetery.

She was a member of the United Methodist Church and P.E.O. both of Sterling.

Survivors: sons, Jack, Wilmette, Ill., Richard, Evanston, Ill.; Robert, Norman, Okla.; brother Walter Proctor, Pratt; sister, Dorothy Logue, Pratt; nine grandchildren.

Funeral will be at 2:30 p.m. Saturday at the church; the Rev. Bob Baer. Burial at Sterling Community Cemetery.
