Found Dead in His Chair
Amos Rose, an uncle of Mrs. A. Grannon of this city, was seen on our streets last Friday morning and after returning home, was found dead in his chair. He had reached the ripe old age of 90 years, 8 months and 28 days and for several years lived with the Grannons on the east side of town. Deceased was a native of Ohio, and in his Army service was a member of Co. E, 53rd Illinois Infantry. He was the oldest member of Sterling Meade Post, No. 14, and under it auspices. Burial was made Sunday afternoon. Funeral services were held at the Congregational church by the pastor, Rev. Elwood. Mr. Rose had been a laboring man the greater part of his life and had never married.
