William Frederick Rose was born in February 1844 in Braunschweig, Lower Saxony, Germany, his father, Hinrich, was 40 and his mother, Henna, was 44. He married Elizabeth (Gosch) Ohm on March 18, 1874, in Kankakee, Illinois. They had eight children in 17 years. He died on June 23, 1914, in Sterling, Kansas, at the age of 70.
