Elmer “Em” was the son of Thomas Ellsworth & Ida Florence (Shelton) Smith. He was married to Julia Jane (Conklin) Smith. I’m not sure if they had any more than the three daughters Ethel, Edith & Viola who unfortunately all
passed away shortly after birth.
Received information from a grandson of Em’s who gave me more information which I will add here. There were six more children born to Em & Julia, they were Harold, Wilma, Mildred, Paul, Warren and June.
At the funeral of Em, a minister who was a stranger to Em was called upon to officiate. Quietly he read the name of Elmer Lafayette Smith then said, “It was not my privilege to be acquainted with Mr. Smith, but they tell me he was a good neighbor and met his obligations.” He then read scripture to the end of the service.
What a wonderful simple eulogy
