Reverend David INCHES was born in Balbigee, Scotland on October 18, 1834. He came to America with his family at the age of 8 years. During the War, Rev. INCHES was a member of Company C of the 44th Regiment of the Iowa Infantry. He graduated from the Monmouth, Illinois, seminary in 1867 and was ordained as a United Methodist Presbyterian minister in 1869. Rev. INCHES married Harriet J. “Hattie” JOHNSTON in Scotch Grove, Iowa on July 4, 1867. Rev. INCHES pastored at Spring Grove, Illinois from 1869 to 1887; North Bend, Nebraska from 1876 to 1887; worked in Nebraska and South Dakota from 1887 to 1889; and pastored in Redding, Iowa from 1889 to 1894. The family moved to Sterling, Kansas, in 1894. Rev. INCHES became blind in 1903, and died November 10, 1914, Sterling, Kansas, with interment at Sterling. Harriet J. “Hattie” (JOHNSTON) INCHES was born in Steuben County, Indiana on November 4, 1884, and died in Sterling, Kansas, on November 16, 1917. They were the parents of Ida R. When David Inches and his twin brother David were born on October 18, 1833, in Kinnoull, Perthshire, their father, James, was 38 and their mother, Jane, was 26. He married Harriet Jane Johnston on July 4, 1867, in Scotch Grove, Iowa. They had 11 children in 22 years. He died on November 10, 1914, in Sterling, Kansas, having lived a long life of 81 years.

May 18, 1921 – June 15, 2012 Betty Jane Cundith, 91, of Cameron Park, Calif., was born May 18, 1921, in Santa Barbara, Calif., and passed away June 15, 2012, in Marshall Hospital, of Pneumonia. She was preceded in death by her husband, Thomas E. Cundith. She is survived by her three sons, Tom (Kathy), Mike (Toshie) and Pat Cundith; seven grandchildren; and 12 great-grandchildren. She was the daughter of John and Stella Whittenberger and sister of Alice Haupert (Whittenberger).Betty is remembered as a loving mother, grandmother and great-grandmother. She and Tom were married 57 years. She worked for more than 30 years as an accountant/bookkeeper for the construction business. An avid golfer and golf fan, she scored her first “hole-in-one” at age 83 in front of her sons and grandsons. Her Catholic faith was a lifelong support and comfort. Services and interment were held at Sterling Cemetery in Sterling, Kansas, on June 27.Family links:

She was born on Feb. 23, 1931, in Hutchinson, the daughter of Harvey and Emma White Postier. She married Robert “Bob” Cruth on June 13, 1948, in Hutchinson. A longtime Sterling resident, she was a homemaker. Mrs. Cruth was a member of the Calvary Baptist Church, Silver Threads and Friendship Meals, all of Sterling. She was also a Silver Hair Legislator, a long-term care ombudsman, and PTA member. Survivors include her husband of the home; three daughters, Penny Dill of Colorado Springs, Colo., Brenda Dabelko of Colorado Springs and Becky Boeken of Sterling; seven grandchildren; and 21 great-grandchildren. She was preceded in death by a brother Delmer Postier; two sons-in-law Harvey Boeken and Carl Dill; and a great-grandson Dylan Boeken. Funeral will be at 2 p.m. on Saturday at the United Presbyterian Church in Sterling, with the Rev. Lloyd Gross officiating. Burial will be in Sterling Community Cemetery in Sterling. Friends may call from 2 to 6 p.m. on Friday at Sillin Funeral Home in Sterling. Memorials are suggested to the Calvary Baptist Church Building Fund in care of the funeral home.
