Samuel “Lester” Barr, a resident of Sterling since 1977, died Monday, June 16, 1997, at Sterling Presbyterian Manor at the age of 87.
He was born Sept. 2, 1909, in Sterling, the son of James and Ethel Bradley Barr. He was a retired Federal Aviation Administration employee.
He married Ella Flora McMullen Weston. She died Oct. 8, 1977. On April 8, 1978, he married Myra Euleta (Harvey) Cassidy Harrison. She died Nov. 14, 1991.
Survivors include four step-daughters: Patricia Sorem, Corvallis, Ore.; Barbara Mitchell, Denver; Nancy Stonebraker, Ellsworth; a sister Vesta Braden, Sterling; 10 grandchildren and eight great-grandchildren.
Services were held at 2 p.m. Thursday at Sillin Funeral Home, Sterling. Burial was in the Sterling Community Cemetery.
A memorial fund has been started for the Sterling Presbyterian Manor, in care of the funeral home.

Doris J. “Jeannie” King, 53, died Feb. 11, 2014 at Golden Plains Health Care Center. She was born Oct. 12, 1960 in Beaver, OK the daughter of Ralph and Martha Burns Dixon.She graduated from Sterling/Lyons High School in 1978 and attended Adela Hale Business College, Hutchinson, she received her Respiratory Therapist Certification from California College of Respiratory Care. She was a Certified Respiratory Therapist and a Registered Polysomnographic Technologist at Hutchinson Hospital, a founding member of the Kansas Association of Respiratory Professionals, served as past president of the former South Hutchinson JayCees, she was a former member of the Hutchinson Eagles Lodge and an avid Bingo player.On Nov. 15, 1982 she married William C. “Bill” King in Lyons. He died Dec. 5, 2011. Other survivors include her brothers, Ralph Dixon (Patti), Orlando, Fl, Randy Dixon (Jennifer), South Hutchinson, her best friend Deb Byers (Don), Colorado Springs, CO and numerous nephews and nieces. She was preceded in death by an infant daughter, Rebecca Ellen and a sister, Penny.Memorials may be given to Williams Syndrome Association or Hospice of Reno County in care of the funeral home.Family links:
