Sterling News
Sterling, Rice Co, KSOBIT -Ella Vine Cable BennettFuneral services for the late Mrs. Ella Cable Bennett were held Tuesday afternoon, Jan. 4th, in the Methodist church in this city and were conducted by Rev. E. H. H. Tubbs, pastor of the Baptist church of this city of which she had been for many years a member, assisted by Rev. A. E. Henry, pastor of the Methodist church. A number of relatives and friends were in attendance at the final services and a number of beautiful flowers which covered the casket bore testimony to the esteem in which Mrs. Bennett had been held.

The funeral sermon was given by Mr. Tubbs, who gave a very helpful and comforting discourse in which he emphasized the joy and triumph of the redeemed and the victory over death for all who die in the Lord. The choir of the Methodist church sang several beautiful hymns. Burial was made in Cottonwood cemetery.

During the service the following obituary was read by Rev. Tubbs:

Ella Vine Cable was born Aug. 1, 1932 in Scioto county, Ohio. After a pilgrimage of 83 years 5 months and one day, she died Sunday, January 2, 1916. Her husband was Sylvester Bennett to whom she was married on Independence Day –July 4th–1852. This union was broken by the death of Mr. Bennett in May, 1912. They were the parents of nine children, four of whom have passed away. Those who survive are Mrs. J. T. Templeton, of Guthrie, Okla., Mrs. Douglas White, of Sterling, J. W. Bennett, of Clarks, La., G. E. Bennett, of Hoisington, Kan., and H. R. Bennett, of Sterling. There are eleven grandchildren and three great grandchildren. Sister Bennett came with her husband and children to Kansas in February 1880 and settled in Reno County where she lived continuously until three weeks ago when she came with her son to Sterling. Sister Bennett accepted Jesus Christ as a Savior when she was 15 years of age. She united with the Baptist church at Webster, Ohio. She was baptized by Rev. Bennett, who, later became her father-in-law. Upon coming to Kansas she united with the Medford Baptist, southwest of Sterling. Upon the disorganization of which she placed her membership with the church in Sterling, where it remained until death. Truly a good woman is gone.
