He was born in Richmond, Ohio, and had reached the age of 71 years, 4 months and 9 days. While but a child, the family moved to Kentucky where he lived for a number of years. He was first a merchant and later learned the carpenter’s trade. On February 22, 1865, Mr. Stairs married Miss Judith A. Lytle and to them eleven children have been born. Two daughters and one son have died. Those who survive are, Mrs. E. R. Smisor at Omaha, Neb., Mrs. G. Kidd, Kiowa, Kan., Mrs. Lyon, Sterling; Mrs. Currie, Hill City, Kan.; J. H. All but two of the children are here at this time. The only homes of the deceased in Kansas have been on a farm northeast of Sterling and later in this city.
Liver Trouble was the cause of death and the last three weeks Mr. Stairs was bed fast, the first time in his life he had ever been confined to the house on account of sickness.
