JAS. H. WALLACE DEAD
PASSED AWAY AT HOME OF DAUGHTER IN JETMORE-BURIAL IN COTTONWOOD
Friends of James H. Wallace were much surprised and saddened to hear of his death, which occurred Tuesday, at the home of his daughter, Mrs. J. McClure of Jetmore.
Mr. Wallace was a former citizen Sterling, and is widely known in this community. He made this locality his home until 1913, when he went to Jetmore. He was a man of quiet manner, and on account of his pleasing and strong personality he gained the respect of those with whom he came in contact. His honor and dependable character caused people to learn to rely upon him and to value him as a friend.
Mr. Wallace was born on July 7, 1837, at Uniontown, Belmont County, Ohio. On March 4, 1875, he was united in marriage to Miss Fannie L. Foster. For a few years they lived at Kirkwood, Ill., and then moved to Mission Creek, Nebraska. While living at Mission Creek, Mrs. Wallace died, in 1889, on January 25. Two years later, April 2, 1891, Mr. Wallace was married to Miss Ruth Eleanor Kinkade, of Mission Creek.
From Mission Creek they moved to Sterling; and on June 12, 1906, Mrs. Ruth Wallace passed to her heavenly home. While living in this locality, they spent several years on a farm one mile east and one and one-half south of Sterling. The last two of the fifteen years lived here were spent in town. In 1913 he went to Jetmore where he made his home with the exception of a few years, which he spent at Siloam Springs, Ark.
While a young oy he united with the United Presbyterian church at Fairview, Ohio. He always took an active part in church work, and on account of his sound judgment, his counsel was much desired. In Sterling he was a member of the session of the First U. P. congregation of both Siloam Springs and of Jetmore. His whole life centered on the church and his home.
The cause of his death is not definitely known as it was a complication of troubles, the result of old age. He took worse Sabbath and gradually weakened until Tuesday, when he passed away. The body was shipped from Jetmore today to Sterling, and the funeral services were held this afternoon at two o/clock at the U. P. church. Dr. Spencer, assisted by Rev. G. I. Findley, had charge of the services.
He leaves to mourn his death three children, Ralph Wallace, of Waynaco, Oklahoma, F. Paul Wallace, and Mrs. J. McClure, of Jetmore. He also leaves two sisters, Mrs. S. W. Lorimer, of Kirklin, Indiana, and Mrs. James Montgomery, of Florence, Colorado; and two brothers, E. H. Wallace, of Beaumont, California, and John Wallace, of San Pedro, Calif. All of the children were present at the funeral. The body was laid to rest in the Cottonwood cemetery, where Mrs. Ruth Wallace was buried.
James Hastings Wallace was born on July 7, 1837, his father, David, was 34 and his mother, Frances, was 28. He married Frances Lavinea (Luvinia) “Fannie” Foster and they had three children together. They were married for 13 years. After her death, he then married Ruth Eleanor Kinkade on April 2, 1891, in Pawnee City, Nebraska. They had been married 15 years before her death. He died on October 28, 1919, in Jetmore, Kansas, at the age of 82, and was buried in Sterling, Kansas.
