Mary Drake was born in Macon County, Mo 3 Apr 1860, and died at her home in Sterling on the 9th of Aug 1934.
When sixteen years of age she came to Kansas with her parents and settled in this community.
In 1878 she was united in marriage with Henry P Whitzel. To this union one son was born, Arthur E Whitzel, who preceded his mother in death eight years ago. Her husband died in March 1931. She was a member of the United Brethren Church.
Mrs Whitzel leaves to mourn her going one sister, Susan Hopson, of Wichita, Ks., and one brother, Harvey Drake of Ordway, Colo., one grandson Paul R Whitzel, of Kansas City, Mo., also a host of other relatives and friends.
Funeral services were held at the Baptist Church, Friday afternoon, conducted by Rev J C Pinkerton, and interment was made in the Sterling cemetery, in the family lot here.

Mr. and Mrs A J Clark of Montezuma, Mr. and Mrs E R Shaffer and Mrs Susan Hopson, all of Wichita, Mr. and Mrs Paul Whitzell and Mrs R E Amrbler of Kansas City, Mo., Mr. and Mrs W C Jones, Mrs A M Sullivan and Melba Sullivan, of Cancy.
Mary Drake mother was Dulcena (Mendenhall) Helton, Dulcena was born abt 1831 in Ohio and died before 1870 in Walnut Creek, Macon Co., Mo. She was the second wife of James Drake, Mary Drake father.Family links:
