Obituary STERLING BULLETIN  July 1893.

AN OLD WARRIOR GONE

Another old veteran has been mustered out of active service here below and been called home by his Great Commander to receive the reward meted out to the faithful.

Rev. James A. Vickers died on the morning of July 20, 1893 at his home in Sterling. He was aged 65 years, 7 months and 18 days. The funeral services will take place today (Friday) at 2 p.m. at the M. E. church. Rev. A. H. Parker will preach the sermon and conduct the services. The G.A.R. and the Masons will attend the funeral, and assist in the services at the cemetery.

Mr. Vickers served in the army during the late rebellion, and in 1869 moved from Indiana to Kansas. He has been a Methodist preacher for nearly 39 years, except at such times when he was unable by reason of sickness.  He was an earnest, large-hearted Christian, and tasted in life much of the glory which God hath promised to his children.
