Ruth E. Varney, 89, died October 12, 2016 at Sandstone Heights Nursing Home in Little River.  She was born March 5, 1927 in Rozel, Kansas the daughter of Thomas J. and Zora Frick Murphy.  She was a lifetime Sterling resident and was a homemaker.  On July 30, 1960 she married Arthur H. Varney at Little River.  He died November 15, 1992.  She is survived by her daughter, Joleen and husband Terry Larkin of Sterling.  4 Grandchildren and 5 Great-Grandchildren.  She was preceded in death by her son Scott Varney, Great-Granddaughter, Emmylee Strong, 1 sister and 7 brothers.  Graveside services will be at 2:00 P.M. Saturday, October 15, 2016 at the Sterling Community Cemetery with Rev. William Runyon officiating.  Memorials may be given to Sandstone Heights Nursing Home in Little River in care of Birzer Funeral Home of Sterling.
