Obituary Sterling Kansas Bulletin

Sylvanus T. Stubbs was born near West Elkton, Ohio, August 13, 1842 and died at Sterling, Kan., January 13, 1905, aged 62 years, 5 months and 4 days. He enlisted in Co. I, Eleventh Ohio Infantry, Sept. 1, 1862; he served two years and was discharged on account of ill health. He was married April 10, 1864, to Nancy J. Allen by whom he had five children – Ida, William, Owen P., Adelaine and Katie, of whom three are living. His wife, Nancy, died September 18, 1873. On December 20, 1879, he was married to Sarah E. Truesdell at Sterling, Kan., by whom he had three children – Mabel, Ransom and Louis, all living. He came to Sterling  in 1877 and lived here until his death. He was a quiet and unassuming man, strictly honorable in all his dealings with his fellow-men. At the time of his death he was one of the R.F.D. carriers and much esteemed by his fellow carriers. The funeral was held at the home and conducted by Rev. Ira S. Bundy, assisted by Dr. Akin.
