MORTIMER STILES

Mortimer Stiles was born in Allen county, Ohio, July 22, 1839.  He went with his parents to the state of Indiana in 1848 where he grew to young manhood, from which he was mustered into the military service where he remained three years. He came to Kansas in 1869. About thirteen years ago he was thrown from his buggy and was badly hurt, from which he never fully recovered and much suffering followed. However, during this time and that of his last sickness he manifested wonderful patience, until on Wednesday at 11 a.m. his spirit took its flight.

He leaves a wife, three daughters and many friends to mourn his loss. The funeral services were conducted by Dr. E. B. Wells at his late residence on Saturday at 10:30 a.m. The ceremony at the grave was by the Grand Army of the Republic and the body interred in Cottonwood cemetery.  “One more at home; that home where separation can not be, Lord Jesus, grant us all a peace with thee.”
