Myrle R. “Shorty” Smith, a longtime Sterling resident, died Monday, June 2, 1997, at Sterling Presbyterian Manor at the age of 90.
He was born Dec. 28, 1906, at Yates Center, the son of Walter W. and Anna K. Harroid Smith. He was a retired cowboy, oil field, and farm laborer.
On Nov. 18, 1948, he married Mable E. Loftis. She preceded him in death on April 14, 1988.
Survivors include sons, Paul E. Smith, Hutchinson; Everett G. (Ed) Smith and Ralph D. Smith, both of Sterling; nine grandchildren, 21 great-grandchildren, and six great-great-grandchildren.
He was preceded in death by two sons, Thomas L. and Jimmy D. Smith.
A private graveside service will be held at a later time at the Sterling Community Cemetery. Memorials may be sent to the Sterling Presbyterian Manor Good Samaritan Fund, Sterling Public Library, or donor’s choice, in care of Sillin Funeral Home, Sterling.
