Sterling – Kenneth Yasahiro Smith, 49, died Oct. 5, 2004, at University of Kansas Medical Center, Kansas City, Kan. He was born Dec. 6, 1954, at Sterling, the son of Vernon Leonard and Chizu (Iwashige) Smith. He graduated from Sterling High School in 1972 and attended Hutchinson Junior College. A lifetime Sterling resident, he was the manager of Home Lumber Co., Sterling.

He was a charter member of Sons of the American Legion Post No. 128, Sterling. Survivors include his parents, Vernon and Chizu Smith, Sterling, a daughter, Samantha Smith, Hutchinson, two sisters, Beverly Jean Exposito and husband, Parker, Hutchinson, and Debra Joann Savage, Arkansas City, and many nephews and nieces.

He was preceded in death by his grandparents. Funeral will be at 11 a.m. Friday at United Methodist Church, Sterling, with the Rev.’s Robert Bethell and Nancy Goddard presiding. Visitation will be from 2 to 7 p.m. Thursday at Sillin Funeral Home, Sterling. The casket will be closed. Burial will be in Sterling Community Cemetery.
