John Theodore Selfridge Passed Away Yesterday At His Home in Sterling

John T. Selfridge was born in Coulterville, Randolph County, Illinois in 1845 and died in Sterling, Wednesday June 11th, aged sixty-seven years six months and twenty-eight days.  While he had been in poor health little more than two years, his last sickness was a period of nine weeks, diabetes being the cause.  He was a patient sufferer.  Four brothers, three sisters and ten grand children survive the deceased.  Mr. Selfridge enlisted in the 31st Illinois Volunteer Infantry and gave one and one-half years of faithful service.  He was taken prisoner and parolled.  In 1870 he was married to Miss Lucretia Whalen at Girard, Kansas. To them were born eight sons and two daughters, six sons and both daughters surviving their father. A carpenter by trade, he moved to Kansas soon after the war and was one of those remaining longest in Rice county, being here almost continuously since 1876.

Dr. A. E. Kirk conducted funeral services this afternoon at the home place on Adams street, in the presence of a large gathering of sympathizing friends. Deceased was well known thruout this community and a valued citizen in our midst.
