Joseph Alexander Schuyler was born in 1843 in Bucks County, Pennsylvania.  His father, Michael, was 38 and his mother, Elizabeth, was 35. He married Eunice Phelina Schuyler in October 1883. He died in July 1896 in Enterprise, Kansas, at the age of 56, and was buried in Sterling, Kansas.

Killed by Lightning.

Jos. A. Schuler, who lived nine miles south of town, was killed by a stroke of lightning, Monday evening.  He ate his supper about 8 o’clock and had gone out to the barn. When struck, he was standing by a shed. Mr. Schuyler was 56 years, 8 months, and two days old, born in Hamilton County, Ohio in 1842.   He held membership in the Meade Post  of the G.A.R. in  Sterling.  Rev. L.O. Blake conducted the funeral service at the U. B. church here, and the remains were interred in the Cottonwood Cemetery, on Tuesday, July 7, at 2 p.m.  Mr. Schuyler was a veteran of the late war, having served in Co. C. 42nd Indiana volunteers.
