ST. JOHN – Amy Sue Russell, 48, died Aug. 10, 2014, at Wesley Medical Center. She was born June 23, 1966, in Kansas City, Kan., the daughter of Dr. Roy C. and Karen (McFadden) Russell.

She graduated from Buhler High School in 1984 and from Sidney’s Hairdressing College. She worked for Sunflower Diversified Service as an employment facilitator, taught riding lessons, and was a dog groomer. Amy was a member of Kansas Open Barrel Race Association, Reno County Quarter Horse Association, American Quarter Horse Association, Kansas Quarter Horse Association, Stafford County Horse Project and judged 4-H shows and open shows. Amy held many awards such as: the Sho Nuf McCue (Turkey) AJQHA Champion 1979, AJQHA Youth Supreme 1980, 35 AJQHA All-Arounds-Top 10 1980, fifth in Reining and sixth in Western Riding, Kansas Horse of the Year 1979 and 1980, KJQHA All-Around 13 and Under Youth 1980, Reserve High Point Youth Quarter Horse Congress, Columbus Ohio, AJQHA Youth World held in Oklahoma, top 10 in Horsemanship, Western Riding and Barrel Racing.

Amy is survived by: her daughter, Kayla Temple of Olmitz; father, Dr. Roy C. Russell and wife Susan of Hutchinson; mother, Karen Russell of Hutchinson; companion, Brian Davis of St. John; brother, Burke Russell and wife Dini of Florida; and two nephews. She was preceded in death by: grandparents, John W. and Bernadine Russell and Damon H. and Vivian D. McFadden.

Funeral service will be 1 p.m. Friday, Aug. 15, 2014, at South Hutchinson United Methodist Church, with Pastor John Paul and Reverend Warren Hett officiating. Burial will follow in Sterling Community Cemetery. Friends may sign the book from 9 a.m. to 9 p.m. Tuesday through Thursday at Elliott Mortuary, Hutchinson.
