Richard Allen Porter

Richard Allen Porter, 68, died Aug. 12, 2014, at St. Francis Via Christi, Wichita, Kan. He was born Dec. 1, 1945, in Leavenworth, Kan., to W. Earl and Mildred (Miller) Porter.

 He married Lois A. Frasure on July 12, 1969, in Hutchinson, Kan. She survives. Richard was an assistant manager at Easterday Lumber in Hutchinson for many years. He was also a carpenter and was a custodian at Nickerson High School until his retirement in 2012. Richard was a member of Amvets Post 11, Boy Scouts of America, and the Saint Teresa’s Mens Club. Survivors include: his wife; son, Paul Porter and wife MaLisa, all of Hutchinson; daughter, Jennifer Ekberg and husband Darrin “Ed” of San Antonio, Texas; grandchildren, Samantha and Jacob Ekberg of San Antonio, Texas; brothers, David Porter and wife Carolyn of Chattanooga, Tenn., Larry Porter and wife Shirley of Magnolia, Ark.; and numerous nieces and nephews. He was preceded in death by his parents.

A Memorial Mass will be 10:30 a.m. Saturday, Aug. 16, 2014, at Saint Teresa’s Catholic Church, Hutchinson, with Father Nicholas Voelker presiding. A private family burial will be at a later date in the Sterling Community Cemetery. Friends may sign the book from 9 a.m. to 9 p.m. Thursday and Friday, with the family to receive friends from 7 to 8 p.m. Friday, at Elliott Mortuary, Hutchinson.
