Marian Lois Poe, 83, of Sterling, Kansas, passed away May 31, 2024, at Sterling Village. She was born November 16, 1940, in Round Grove, Missouri, the daughter of Ralph William and Zelma Lois (Vert) Gale. Marian attended grade school at Sterling. She graduated from Buhler High School, Buhler, Kansas, with the class of 1958. She continued her education at Hutchinson Community College and Emporia State Teachers College; and received her master’s degree in business management. Marian was an accountant for many years. She served in the United States Army as a console operator from November 29, 1963 until her honorable discharge on June 11, 1965. Marian was a member of the First Baptist Church, Sterling, a member of the American Association for University Women, and a fifteen-year member of the Sterling American Legion Post #128. She is survived by her two sons, David Gale Poe of Norman, OK, and Mark Daniel Poe, and daughter, Johnel Christine Almanza of Portland, OR; and seven grandchildren. She is preceded in death by her parents. Funeral service will be at 2:00 P.M., Wednesday, June 5, 2024, at the United Presbyterian Church, Sterling, with Pastor Melissa Krabbe officiating. Burial will follow at the Sterling Community Cemetery with military honors by the Ft. Riley Honor Guard. Visitation will be from 1:00 P.M. until service time at the church, with family present. Memorials may be given to the Sterling American Legion Post #128 in care of Birzer Funeral Home, Sterling.
