Mrs. Sarah Columbia O’Neil died last Sunday morning, December 26th, at 10 o’clock. She had been afflicted with chronic bronchitis for a number of years, and for the last three weeks of her life had been confined to her room. Mrs. O’Neil was born in Virginia, and at the time of her death was aged 47 years, 3 months, and 23 days. She had been a resident of Sterling for about seventeen years, having come here in the winter of 1877. She was married to Jasper O’Neil in 1885 and his death occurred on the 22nd of February, 1892, just ten months before his wife. Mrs. O’Neil’s mother, Mrs. Tharp, lives in Raymond, and she also leaves a brother, J.I. Tharp, who has assisted her in conducting the grocery business here since the death of her husband.
The deceased had been a member of the Presbyterian church for a number of years, and the funeral services were held there Tuesday afternoon. She was laid to rest in Cottonwood cemetery beside the body of her husband, to “sleep the sleep that knows not breaking morn of toil or night of waking.” She was a woman who was very generous and kindhearted and lived an upright Christian life.
