Sterling – Marlin M. McFarland, 47, died June 25, 1993, at his home.
He was born April 4, 1946, at Sterling the son of Eldo and Heloise Schafer McFarland. A longtime Sterling Resident, he was a graduate of Sterling High School and Sterling College. He was a farmer and teacher, having taught at Conway Springs High School, Sterling High School, and Sterling College.
He attended the United Methodist Church, he was a member of the church deacon board, the Sterling College board, and he was a Sunday School teacher, all at Sterling, a member of the Farm Bureau board, Farmers Home Administration Board, and past Lions Club president. He was a U.S. Navy veteran of the Vietnam War.
On Aug. 5, 1966, he married Paula Burnett at Granger, Wash. She survives.
Other survivors include two daughters, Nicki McFarland, of the home, and Kara Fabin, Lawrence; parents, Sterling; and a sister, Melody DeBuhr, Topeka.
Memorial service will be at 2 p.m. Tuesday at the United Methodist Church, Sterling, with the Rev. James Graves presiding. Friends may call from 2 to 7 p.m. Monday at Porter & Sillin Funeral Home, Sterling. Burial will be in the Sterling Community Cemetery.
Memorials may be sent to the United Methodist Church Building Fund or the Rice/Reno County Hospice, both in care of the funeral home.
