Edwin S. Leonard, Sterling, died Monday, May 9, 2005, at Hutchinson Hospital at the age of 86. He was born Sept. 4, 1918, at Saxman, the son of Glenn A and Ester Baker Leonard, A lifetime resident of Rice County, he was an oil field pumper for 17 years and an employee of Lyons Manufacturing for 15 years.
He was a graduate of Lyons High School and was a United States Army veteran serving during World War II with the Fifth Armored Division 127, Ordinance maintenance.
He was a member of the former United Presbyterian Church, Saxman; Antique Tractor and Gas Engine Club of Central Kansas, life member of Lyons V.F.W.
On Jan. 20, 1946, he married Alice Virginia Smith.
Survivors include his wife, Alice, of the home; and a sister, Anne Ratcliffe, Fort Worth, Texas.
Graveside service will be at 2 p.m. Thursday in Sterling Community Cemetery, with military rites by Fort Riley Honor guard.
