Mary L’Homadieu Latham was born in Rising Sun, Indiana, February 19, 1839 and died in Sterling Kansas March 20, 1907. Her early years were spent in Rising Sun, where she graduated from Seminary and entered her teaching career.
She taught for 27 years in Ohio and Switzerland Counties, Indiana, 2 years in Boone County, Kentucky and 12 years in Sterling-a record of 41 years in the school room. Her life was lived for others and she seemed to find her greatest happiness in so doing.
Five sisters survive her -Harriet and Lottie Latham, and Mrs. Ella Grandy of Sterling; Mrs. W. H. Wallick of Edgewater, Colo and Mrs. R. R. Taggart of Osiris, Okla. Funeral services were held at the home on the 22d, conducted by Rev. C. G. Miller of the Congregational Church and were largely attended by friends of the deceased.
