Funeral for Mary Ruth Graham, 92, Lawton will be at 4:00 PM Monday, March 31, 2014 at Westminster Presbyterian Church with The Rev. Mark Henslee, pastor officiating.
Mrs. Graham died Friday, March 28, 2014 in Lawton.
She will be buried beside her husband Charles R. Graham at Sterling Cemetery in Sterling, Kansas under the direction of Becker-Rabon Funeral Home.
She was born in Hillsville, Virginia on May 1, 1921, and reared on a farm with her parents, Mr. John Cleveland and Mrs. Sarah Lee Redd and her two brothers and three sisters. She married Charles R. Graham on June 19, 1943. He died March 15, 1985. She attended a Southern Presbyterian Church and was active in the Sunday School and youth programs.
Mrs. Graham graduated from Hillsville High School and received an Associate degree from Carroll County Business College in Hillsville, Virginia, an Associate of Arts degree from Montreat College, Montreat, North Carolina, a Bachelor of Arts degree from Sterling College, Sterling, Kansas and a Master of Education degree from California University of Pennsylvania, California, Pennsylvania.
Mrs. Graham taught at Bliss Business College in Columbus, Ohio and for a total of thirty years in public schools in Penalosa, Kansas, Hillsville, Virginia, Chicago, Illinois and Washington, Pennsylvania.
Mrs. Graham was a member of the First United Presbyterian Church in Washington, Pennsylvania since her husband became pastor in 1955. She was active in the missionary societies and was president of the Women’s Federation for ten years. She served the Washington Presbytery as enabler and auditor. For many years she was sponsor of the local youth program and was leader of the Junior Church. She taught Sunday School classes for children and adults, was secretary of the Board of Trustees, secretary of the Corporation and treasurer of the Ladies Aid Society. She volunteered as secretary of the church and was responsible for the monthly newsletter. She represented the church on the board of the Community Circle Food Pantry, the City Mission Auxiliary and was active in Church Women United.
Mrs. Graham is survived by three sons, John L. Graham, Charles R. Graham and George E. Graham as well as four grandchildren and seven great grandchildren.
She is preceded in death by her husband and her parents.
