May 17, 1901The Sterling Bulletin Sterling, Kansas Anna Alice ElblMiss Anna Alice Elbl died at the home of George Bruer in Sterling, May 14, at 2:30 a.m., aged 13 years, 9 months and 18 days. She had not been well for several days, but was not thought to be dangerously sick till within a short time before her death. She was at school Monday till noon, and died early Tuesday morning. The funeral was held Wednesday at 3 p.m. at the Congregational church conducted by Dr. A. W. Bishop. Prof. Conway, superintendent of our schools, the teachers and pupils of the High School attended in a body. Six young men acted as pall-bearers and six young ladies dressed in white as honorary pall-bearers. The walls of the church were too small to contain the vast audience in attendance. Death, even of the elderly, shocks us, but in the case of the sudden call of our young friend, the stroke seems unusually severe. Her teacher, Miss Enfield, said to us, “Alice was one of my most studious and ambitious girls. I had to hold her back. She would work too hard and I fear her ambition was too great for her physical system. She was a very bright girl.” She was a member of Mrs. M. Westenhaver’s Sunday School class at the Congregational Sunday School. Alice, by her bright and happy disposition, had made many warm friends. A father, mother and brother mourn the loss of a loving daughter and sister. The family have the sympathy of the entire community.Family links:
