Wm. Blades died at his home, three miles east of Sterling July 28, 1898. His age was 83 years, 8 months and 23 days. He was born in Brown County, Ohio, but was raised in Kentucky. In 1857 he moved to Missouri, and in 1876 came to Kansas. His wife, 81 years and three children survive him – W. C. Blades, Covington, KY, F.S.Blades and Zella Gash, of Sterling, Kansas. He was a member of Troup B, 3rd Mo. Cavalry, his son Frank being a member of the same company. From his youth, he has been a member of the M.E. church. Over two years ago he had a paralytic stroke and has not been able to speak or to move about alone. The funeral services will be held at his late residence this Friday morning at 9:30 o’clock under the auspices of the G.A.R. Rev. R. A. Dadisman will preach the sermon.
