01 Jun 1944The Sterling Bulletin Volume 69, Number 22Sterling, Rice, Kansas, USAMrs. Adeline FligingerThe following obituary was written by C, Fliginger:

Adeline Annette Fliginger n Yaggy, was born February 4, 1881, Allen county Indiana, and departed this life May 7, 1944, at Hutchinson. She was united in marriage toChristian Fliginger July 17, 1901. Her parents, two brothers and two sisters preceded her in death. Her husband and sister will soon join her happiness and bliss to adore her Christ and Lord.

“Mrs. Fliginger received the Lord Jesus Christ as her personal Savior in her early youth and was interested in seeing men and women born into the Kingdom of God. Her suffering in this life meant deeper consecration and fellowship with her Lord. Often when we entered the house we could hear her agonizing with God in deep travail for souls and true Bible messengers to go to tell the story of the true gospel to lost and dying men.

“To my friends and neighbors may I say, I am thankful to God and you and deeply appreciate the many kind words, deeds and sympathy given me in this hour of sorrow. I pray God to reward you with His rich eternal blessings for your true friendship and good will, and shall pray God to help me to continue in His will as your neighbor.”

PASSED OVER THE RIVER

Jasper O’Neil, well known in Sterling for a number of years, being prominent in mercantile and church society, died on Monday afternoon, February 22, at five o’clock. Mr. O’Neil had conducted a grocery store in Sterling for a number of years and was upright in all his business dealings. He was well liked by all, and the large concourse of people, who attended his funeral attested to the esteem in which he was held.

Mr. O’Neil has been troubled with heart disease for a number of years and was frequently confined to his bed. For the last three months he grew steadily worse, and during that time rarely left his room. On Monday the end came, and his soul took its flight.

Jasper O’Neil was born in Fayette County, Pennsylvania, on August 17th, 1827. United with the Presbyterian church at the age of eighteen, and remained a faithful member until his death. He lived a most consistent Christian life, being always remarkable for his piety and devotion. He moved to Iowa in 1844, where he was married in 1848.  By this union, he was the father of six children, two of whom preceded him at the Master’s call. On August 19th, 1861, he enrolled in Company B, 50th regiment, Iowa Volunteer Cavalry, and served his county four years. He came to Kansas in 1883. He was married to Mrs. Fisher in 1886, with whom he lived happily, and who remains to mourn the loss of a faithful and devoted husband.

Margaret Ann(Leasure) was married to William Fisher, Jr. , Jan. 1, 1845 in West Moreland County, PA.

She married Jasper O’Neil Sept. 10, 1848 in Lee County, IA.   Together they had six children, 4 of whom lived.  Margaret Ann died November 2, 1906 in Van Buren Co., Iowa and was buried in Hood River, Hood River County, Oregon, USA.
