Sterling Bulletin Obituary for Robert Dwain Amend

Robert Dwain Amend died yesterday, March 29, 1999, in the Hutchinson Hospital at the age of 74.

The retired machinist had lived in Alden since 1992 and was a former resident of Sterling.

Born April 21, 1924, in Sterling to Bruce and Laura Proffitt Amend, he married Lola M. Martin on June 29, 1950, in New Mexico.

He was a U.S. Navy veteran of World War II.

Survivors are his wife; three sons, Donald of Lyons, Mike of Arlington, Wash., and Danny of Chino Hills, Calif.; two daughters, Marlene Buck of Lawrence and Linda Shook of Lyons; four brothers, William of El Dorado, Don and Larry of Sterling, and Rex of Holyrood; a sister, Connie Green of Eagle Rock, Mo.; nine grandchildren and five great-grandchildren.

The Rev. Keith Shrum will conduct a funeral at 2 p.m. Thursday at Sillin Funeral Home, Sterling.

Burial will be in the Sterling Community Cemetery. Friends may call at the funeral home from 9 a.m. until the service time Thursday.

A memorial fund has been started for the Leukemia Society, in care of the funeral home.

Rev. Gary Brooks will preside at a graveside service Saturday, May 11, 11: 00 a.m. at the Sterling Community Cemetery for Dr. Lorene L. Amend, who died July 23, 1988, at Baptist Gardens Retirement Center, Long Beach, CA. Cremation took place in Long Beach.

He was born Dec. 6, 1910, at Sterling to Dr. William L. Amend and Grace Lundy Amend.

Following chiropractic school, Loren worked as a chiropractor.

Loren and Frances divorced in 1949 in Pinellas, FL.  August 18, 1971, Loren married  Wilma S Monier in Las Vegas, Nevada.

Survivors include one son, Wesley, and two daughters, Kay Lea and Grace Ann Peters, all of St. Petersburg, FL; one sister Lena Millett, Minneola; two brothers, John David Amend, San Francisco, CA, and W. L. Amend, Sterling; five grandchildren and one great-grandson.

Porter and Sillin Funeral Home, Sterling, was in charge of local arrangements.
