MELISSA R. WOOD BAGGS
Melissa Renee Wood Baggs, 28, Lamar, passed away at 1:15 a.m. Sunday, March 23, 2003 in the fire that destroyed her home.
Melissa was born Jan. 14, 1975, in El Dorado Springs, to Lloyd E. and Carla G. (Austin) Wood. She had lived in Barton County for the past five years and was a home health aide for the Barton County Health Department. She had also worked for the Nevada Habilitation Center.
Melissa was a member of the Reorganized Church of Jesus Christ of Latter Day Saints in El Dorado Springs and attended the Lamar Church of the Nazarene.
On Oct. 3, 2001, in Miami, OK, she married John Norvin Baggs, who, along with their daughter, Caitlyn, also died in Sunday morning’s fire.
Survivors include two sons and two daughters – Donovan Wood, Michael Baggs, Kirsten Wood and Alexandria Baggs – all of the home; her parents, Lloyd and Juanita Wood – Moundville, and Carla Brown – El Dorado Springs; maternal grandmother, Bonnie Longstreth – Moundville; a half-brother and two half-sisters – Chris Brown, Cori Hoover and Taryn Wood – all of El Dorado Springs and numerous aunts, uncles and cousins.
A memorial service for John, Melissa and Caitlyn will be held at 11 a.m. Thursday, March 27, at the Lamar Church of the Nazarene with Pastor Jeff Patton officiating.
