Marlene Ann Connor, 68, of Sterling, Kansas, passed away on April 9, 2020 at Hutchinson Regional Medical Center, Hutchinson, Kansas. She was born on February 5, 1952 in Lincoln, Nebraska, the daughter of Marvin Glen and Dessie Ann Swanson Cowell. Marlene graduated from Sterling High School, Sterling, Colorado, with the class of 1970.  She graduated from Northeastern Jr. College, Sterling, Colorado, with the class of 1972, and later received a Bachelor’s of Mathematics Degree from Chadron State College, Chadron, Nebraska in 1975. Formerly of Wichita, Kansas, she has resided in Sterling since 2010. Marlene worked for 24 years as a system analyst for Sedgwick County, Kansas, retiring in 2010.  She was a member of Sterling Assembly of God, where she served as secretary and treasurer. On June 1, 1973, Marlene was united in marriage to Kendal Connor in Sterling, Colorado. He survives of the home. She is also survived by her two sons, Michael Connor and wife Tracie of Goose Creek, South Carolina, and their daughter Madeleine, and David Connor and wife Allison of Abilene, Texas, and their children, Gentry, Emberly, and Hartley; brother, David Cowell and wife Pat of St. Charles, Missouri; and sister, Debbie Thompson and husband Darrol of Belle Plaine, Kansas. Marlene was preceded in death by her parents. Private family graveside services will be 1:30 P.M., Saturday, April 18, 2020 at Sterling Community Cemetery with Rev. Don Starnes officiating. In lieu of flowers, memorials may be given to KDC-BGMC (Boys and Girls Missionary Crusade) in care of Birzer Funeral Home, Sterling.

Jerry Lynn Fiehler, 85, of Sterling, Kansas, passed away April 9, 2020 at his home. He was born December 3, 1934 at home in Baldwin City, Kansas, the son Lindell F. and Mable Pauline Stratton Fiehler. Jerry was a Sterling resident since 1972, formerly of Osage City, Kansas. He graduated from Wellsville High School, Wellsville, Kansas, with the class of 1953. Jerry worked for Kellogg Switchboard and Supply Co. installing Dial Telephone equipment for telephone companies. He drove a livestock truck for Helfritz Truck Line for two years, went to work for W.E.G. Dial Telephone Company. In 1961, Jerry redrafted for one year during Berlin Circuses, and was released in 1962 and returned to work for W.E.G. Dial Telephone Company, which was sold six times, last being Sprint when he retired in 1998. He raised hydroponic tomatoes in a greenhouse for three years and worked for Sterling Township. Jerry served in the United States Army from June 6, 1957 until his honorable discharge on June 7, 1959. He was a member of the Sterling American Legion Post #128 for thirty-four years, Cub Scout Master and Scout Master. On June 10, 1956, Jerry was united in marriage with Patricia A. Helfritz in Lyle, Minnesota. She preceded him in death on December 9, 2009. He is also preceded in death by his parents; daughter, Glennis Fiehler; and brothers, Robert Fiehler and Bill Pogue. Jerry is survived by his son, Steve Fiehler (Wendy) of Sterling; brother, Charles Fiehler (Norma) of Gardner, KS; sister, Sandra Jones of Wellsville, KS; sister-in-law, Barbara Noblie of Des Moines, IA; five grandchildren, Chance Fiehler (Sarah), Jacob Fiehler (Dakoda), Zach Fiehler, Tanner Fiehler, and Kodi Fiehler (Evan Barber); and seven great-grandchildren, Trip, Harper, Vann, Stella, Adeline, Gage, Ryder and one on the way. Graveside services will be at 2:00 P.M., Wednesday, April 15, 2020 at Sterling Community Cemetery with military honors by the Sterling American Legion Post #128. Memorials may be given to Sterling American Legion Post #128 in care of Birzer Funeral Home, Sterling.

Jarold Lewis “Jerry” Zimmerman, 77, of Sterling, Kansas, passed away April 7, 2020 at his home. He was born October 20, 1942 in Hutchinson, Kansas, the son of John L. and Mary Eunice Lewis Zimmerman. Jerry has resided in Sterling since 1976, formerly of Kearney, Nebraska. He attended Union 5, rural Reno County for 1st through 8th Grades, and graduated from Sterling High School with the class of 1960. Jerry received his Bachelor’s degree in Agriculture Engineering and Business from Kansas State University in 1966. He was a farmer and owner/operator of Sterling Farm Supply, Inc. from 1980 until retiring in 2010. Jerry was a member and trustee of First United Methodist Church, Sterling, board member of Reno County/Medford Township, board member of Cottonwood Lake Association, board member of Sterling Vision 2000, and a 4-H tractor safety instructor. He enjoyed working on model airplanes and rockets, hunting, fishing, and loved traveling, especially to Alaska. On August 22, 1964, Jerry was united in marriage with Helen Louann Couch in Anthony, Kansas. She preceded in death July 21, 2009. He is also preceded in death by his parents. Jerry is survived by his three children, Jeff Zimmerman and wife Nancy of Vancouver, WA, Jennifer Davis and husband Matt of Kansas City, MO, and their daughter Meg, Jonathan Zimmerman and wife Meischa of Sterling, and their children, Danika and Easton Bingle; sister, Marabeth Scott and husband Tom of Lenexa, KS, sister-in-law, Marsha Couch of Temple, AZ. due to limits on social gatherings, private family graveside services will take place at Sterling Community Cemetery, Sterling, KS.
