STERLING – Julia Frances Simpson, 88, Sterling, died Tuesday, July 20, 2004, at her residence. Born March 30, 1916, in Chicago Heights, Ill., she was a longtime resident of Sterling. Her husband, the Rev. Andrew Lee Simpson Sr., preceded her in death on Aug. 3, 1985. Survivors are two sons, Presiding Elder Andrew L. Simpson Jr., Greenwood Village, Colo., and Gideon Doyle Simpson, Loveland, Colo.; four daughters, Deborah Anne Simpson, Sterling, Rebekah Luease Wheaton, Topeka, Olivia Elaine Burke, St. Peters, Mo., and Jocelyn Marie Furr, Wichita; and six grandchildren. Services will be at 2 p.m. Tuesday at the United Presbyterian Church in Sterling. Burial will be in Sterling Community Cemetery. Visitation will be from 1 to 7 p.m. Monday at Sillin Funeral Home in Sterling. Memorials may be given to Julia F. OBITUARY: Arthur Phillip Simon, 86, died Sunday, March 23, 1986, at the Hilltop Manor, Cunningham. Born March 20, 1900, at Preston, he married Faye Ferguson June 1, 1927, at Tonganoxie. She died July 24, 1975. He then married Delphia D. Osser Jan. 29, 1976. He was owner of the Simon Mercantile Co., Turon, the Simon Sundries, Wichita, and Simon Farms, Inc. He was a longtime Turon and Wichita resident.He was a member of First Presbyterian Church, Wichita. Survivors: wife, of the home; son, A.F. Simon, San Diego; brother, Loren Simon, Preston; and two grandchildren. Funeral: 1 p.m. Wednesday at the Porter-Sillin Funeral Home, Sterling, with Rev. George McCall officiating. Six persons were killed in two collisions on Oklahoma’s high ways over the week-end.
One week after five persons met death in a single accident near Hugo, a two car smashup in a rainstorm snuffed out four lives on U.S. Highway 54 near Hooker yesterday.
The dead were H. E. Sills, 40, Garden City, Kan.; Miss Lucille Ritchie, 24, Liberal, Kan.; Walter Atkinson, 32, Liberal and Charles Matkin, 22, Liberal.
