When James Stevenson “Steve” Wilkey was born on August 30, 1914, in Kansas, his father, Edgar, was 42 and his mother, Margaret, was 30. He had three brothers and one sister. He died on August 4, 2004, in Sterling, Kansas, at the age of 89.

Sterling Bulletin Obituary – James Stevenson ‘Steve’  Wilkey, 89, died Aug. 4, 2004, at his home, Sterling. He was born Aug. 30, 1914, at Sterling, the son of Edgar and Margaret Stevenson Wilkey. He graduated from Sterling High School in 1932. A lifetime resident of Sterling, he was a retired farmer and stockman.

He belonged to Reformed Presbyterian Church and was a Union 5 School District Board member, both at Sterling.

On July 21, 1937, he married Mildred Vogel at Sterling. She survives. Other survivors include a son, Van, Hutchinson, three daughters Jo McQuiston, Emporia, Judy McDowell, Monroe, Wash., and Vicki Daise, Osborne, a brother, Wilbur, Sterling; 10 grandchildren; and 10 great-grandchildren.

He was preceded in death by two brothers, Elmer and Louis; and a sister, Helen Fose.

Funeral will be at 10 a.m. Saturday at Reformed Presbyterian Church, Sterling, with Pastor Derek Miller presiding. The casket will be open at the church. Burial will be in Sterling Community Cemetery, Sterling, KS.
