Ralph Blair McAuley, age 85, of Manhattan, died Thursday, May 20, 2004, at the Mercy Regional Health Center in Manhattan. He was born on June 15, 1918, in Kansas City, Missouri, the son of Elmer T. and Bessie F. (Mills) McAuley. Rev. McAuley was ordained as a minister on June 15, 1944. He served numerous parishes as a Presbyterian minister. His last appointment was with the First Evangelical Presbyterian Church, PCA in E. Liverpool, Ohio from which he was named Pastor Emeritus. In 1984 he retired and moved to Manhattan. His memberships included the Heartland Presbytery and the Manhattan Kiwanis Club, He served on the Board of Directors of the former Wharton Manor Nursing Home in Manhattan and volunteered for the Flint Hills Breadbasket. In addition to his memberships, he enjoyed woodworking and photography. On September 3, 1942, in Sterling, Kansas, he was united in marriage to Elizabeth J. “Betty” Hall; she survives of the home. Other survivors include six children: Margaret J. “Peggy” Gates of Anthony, KS, Jean S. Work of Quinter, KS, R Lawrence “Larry” McAuley of Malawi, Africa, Tim McAuley of Chicago, IL, Beth Mosier of Wichita, KS and Tom McAuley of Hutchinson, KS. Seventeen grandchildren and two great-grandchildren also survive. Rev. McAuley was preceded in death by two sisters: Louise McBane and Mary Betty Johnson. Memorials have been established for Sterling College in Sterling, Kansas and for the First Evangelical Presbyterian Church in East Liverpool, Ohio.
