Elizabeth Jean “Betty” (Hall) McAuley was born October 4, 1919 in San Antonio, Texas, the daughter of Charles Albert and Grace (Brigham) Hall. She attended grade school in Marion, Kansas before her family moved to Sterling, Kansas, where she graduated from high school. She attended Sterling College, graduating with a Bachelor of Arts degree.

On September 3, 1942, Betty was united in marriage with Ralph B. McAuley. This union was blessed with six children: Peggy, Jeannie, Larry, Tim, Beth, and Tom.

Betty and Ralph made their home in Pittsburgh, Pennsylvania, where Betty worked as a lab technician while Ralph attended seminary. Ralph and Betty served pastorates in Nebraska, Illinois, Missouri, Kansas, and Ohio. Upon retirement, they made their home in Manhattan, Kansas. After Ralph passed away in 2004, Betty moved to Anthony, Kansas, and became a member of Evangel P.C.A. Church in Wichita, Kansas.

Throughout her life, Betty was a busy homemaker, a faithful Sunday School teacher, a dedicated youth leader and pastor’s wife. She enjoyed knitting, embroidery and corresponding with family and friends. She also enjoyed doing volunteer work. Other activities she enjoyed with her family were picnics, camping, roller skating, sledding and singing hymns around the piano. Betty had a wonderful sense of humor and a sweet smile, which she retained until her death on October 27, 2010, at Anthony Community Care Center. She was 91 years old. She was preceded in death by her husband, Ralph; one brother, Vincent Hall; and one sister, Virginia Langford.

Betty will be deeply missed by her children: Peggy Gates and husband John of Anthony, KS, Jeannie Work and husband Steven of Quinter, KS, Larry McAuley and wife, Linda of Malawi, Africa, Tim McAuley and wife, Kathy of Lombard, Illinois, Beth Mosier and companion Carr Floyd of Wichita, KS, and Tom McAuley of Hutchinson, KS; one brother, Robert Hall and wife, Marjorie of Denver, CO; seventeen grandchildren; ten great-grandchildren; and many other relatives and friends.

Funeral services will be held at 10:30 a.m. Tuesday, November 2, 2010, at the Christian Church in Anthony, Kansas.

Graveside services will be held 3:00 p.m. Tuesday, November 2, 2010, at the Sterling Cemetery in Sterling, Kansas.

Visitation will be held from 9:00 a.m. to 5:00 p.m. Saturday, 1:00 p.m. to 5:00 p.m. Sunday and 9:00 a.m. to 5:00 p.m. Monday at Prairie Rose in Anthony.

Memorials in memory of Betty may be given to Sterling College or to the Anthony Community Care Center and may be sent in care of the funeral home.
