Carole E. Workman, 66, died April 21, 2011 at the Promise Regional Medical Center in Hutchinson. She was born May 31, 1944 in Sterling to Weldon and Retha Smith Burgess. She lived in Sterling most of her life and worked in the food industry, graduating from Sterling High School, and then attending Sydney’s Beauty School in Hutchinson. She was a member of the VFW Women’s Auxiliary, of Lyons, and Hutchinson. She married Jim Savage and later Danny Workman, both later divorced.
Survivors include two sons, Chris and Karen Savage of Sterling, and Tim Workman of Topeka; two daughters Tena Novack of Lyons, and Jenny and Tony Gentile of Raymore, MO; eight grandchildren, and six great-grandchildren. She was preceded in death by her parents, four brothers, Benny Burgess, Truman Burgess, Derald Burgess, and Richard Burgess, four sisters, Betty Scholle, Ilene Lewis, Colleen Lehr, and Shirley Noce .
Funeral services were at 10:30 a.m. Saturday April 23, 2011 at the Birzer Funeral Home in Sterling. Reverend Kendal Connor officiated. Burial was at the Sterling Community Cemetery. Memorial may be made to Main Street Beautification Project/Main Street Sterling or Rice County EMS in care of the funeral home.
