STERLING — Cutter Jaron Proffitt, 8, died May 2 at Via Christi Regional Medical Center, St. Francis Campus, Wichita. He was born April 9, 2002, at Lyons, the son of Wiley and Tracy Kirby Proffitt. He was a lifetime Sterling resident. He was a first-grade student at Sterling Elementary School.

He was a member of the Alden United Methodist Church, attended Kids Camp and was in the summer baseball league.

Survivors include his parents, of the home; a sister, Kynli Proffitt, of the home; grandparents Sondra and Ted Mueller of Wichita, Arlen “Butch” Proffitt and Nancy of Hutchinson, Connie Kirby of Sterling, and Steve and Tonya Kirby of St. John; great-grandmothers Darlene McMurphy of Sterling, Wilma Kirby of Great Bend and Betty Goodman of Hutchinson; aunts and uncles Jeremy and McKenzi Flickinger of Sterling, Daulton Kirby of St. John, Kayla Estes of St. John, and Trever and Gayla Proffitt of Cunningham. He was preceded in death by great-grandparents Keith and Thelma Kirby, Dean Goodman, Helen and Harold Proffitt, Marvin McMurphy and Glenn McMurphy.

Funeral services will be at 10:30 a.m. Thursday at the United Methodist Church, Sterling, with the Rev. Bill Stapleton and the Rev. Debbie Grossardt Arvelo officiating. Burial will be in Sterling Community Cemetery. Visitation will be from 2 to 7 p.m. Wednesday at Birzer Funeral Home in Sterling with the family present from 5 to 7.
