Obituary reads…Mrs. Sarah H. Welda, a former resident of Alden, quietly passed away last Wednesday, at the residence of Mr. Hoover, where she was visiting. Mrs. Welda had spent several weeks visiting the friends and neighbors of her former home. Mrs. Welda was born in Luzern County, Pennsylvania, August 16, 1857. She was united in marriage to Jacob T. Welda, in December 1876. In 1880 they moved to Rice County, where they lived until September 1898 when Mr. Welda accepted a position as a bridge builder with one of the railroad companies, with headquarters at Chanute. Two children were born to them, Burton Ray and Roy, one of which preceded her to the other world. A short funeral service was held at the house of Mr. Hoover, on Friday afternoon, and the remains taken to the cemetery at Sterling for interment. The services were in charge of Rev. W. C. Johnson, of the Evangelical Church. Her husband Jacob Theodore Welda born 12 September 1847 in Pennsylvania died 17 May 1932 in Osawatomie, Miami County, Kansas. His body was given to the University of Kansas, Kansas City, Wyandotte County, Kansas for medical study.
