Velma was employed by the Caller-Times Publishing Company for almost 20 years as a reporter and oil editor. She was preceded in death by her husband Merl C. Timbers who was sheriff of Rice County, Kansas, and a special agent of the F.B.I. She was also preceded in death by her daughter Joyce Timbers, an infant son, her brother Jack Sproles, and both her parents. She was survived by her sister Zella Rae Meinsen of Corpus Christi; numerous nieces, nephews, great nieces and nephews, and one great great niece.
Her father was Elbert J. Sproles (1883-1971) a long time Corpus Christi resident. Her mother, Celeste, passed away 14 Jan 1951 and is interred at IOOF Cemetery, Neosho, Newton Co., Mo. (obituary in Corpus Christi Times issue 19 Jan 1951).
Note: After Mr. Timbers’ death Velma married Mr. Henry, hence her newspaper obit listing is “Velma Timbers Henry”.
